I am looking to change my tyres on my car i am currently running 195/55 15 but the tyre i want does not come in this size the closest being 195/45 15. would the drop in profile have a negligable effect on performance or handling? i know the sidewall flex should be reduced but with my current tyres having a very stiff sidewall this doesnt really matter. And again with the lower profile gearing is effected but to what extent?

Any opinions or info would be great, thanks in advance

That shouldnt be a problem and wont affect your driing in the slightest. Just get 4 wheel alignment done properly by a good garage when you get the 4 new tyres and it'll be fine.

For the gearing, go to page 2 and scroll down to the tyre size calculator. It'll tell you the expected speedo error due to the different rolling radius.

also don't forget you are going to lose ground clearance. not good on the bumpy roads or speed bumps....
oh and easier to kill a 45 profile on a pothole

Shouldnt matter too much i have fully adjustable suspension, so i can raise or lower my ride height to suit if it becomes an issue ;)
