Chucking?

I recently bought an 06 Almera and I'm pretty happy with it. There is one major annoyance however...

When I take my foot off the accelerator, and the car goes down to ~1500 revs, I get this slight sort of "dying" feeling, like someone has pressed the brake ever so gently for a split second, then when I put my foot back on the accelerator, I get one "chuck", and then the car will pick up normally. Its pretty annoying, because any time I'm driving in traffic, I end up right on that limit, and it keeps happening. If I change down, I'll pretty much be revving the crap out of it which I absolutely hate. I've never had this "dying" kind of feeling with any car I've ever drove before....

I presume this shouldn't be happening? Anyone ever experience something similar? Or any idea's what it is? If I could get this sorted, I'd be dead happy with it overall ;)

What gear would you driving at on the 1500 revs?

Well it happens in all of 'em, thats why I'm thinking its something strange going on...

If you leave it for 5+ seconds, it won't chuck at all and it'll pick it normally, but that "dying" feeling at the magic 1500 is what worries me. Never felt anything like that in any car I've driven before.
