    hi,

I have a couple sky questions and hope someone could help me.

I am looking to get sky+. At present my house has a phone line but dont pay line rental so its not switched on. Can I activate my sky+ package if i get it without a phone line?

2nd question I have is that my electirican has run a cable from the attic to all the rooms in the house and in each wall, a standard TV aerial connector. Can the sky dish be connected to the cable in the attic and transefer the required signal to each room, then plug the receiver into the wall connection? Sorry if i am not explaining this well!

In answer to your first question you can avail of Sky without an active phone line but you will have to pay usually an extra €37.50 once off manual connection fee. You will require 2 cables from the dish for Sky +

In answer to your second question you can connect the box by running a cable from it to attic and via use of a distrubtion amplifier you can send the same channel currently being displayed on the box to whatever number of tv's you require. Use of a digital amplifier will allow you to connect what is known as a magic eye to change the channel on the sky box in another room eg the bedroom but you cannot watch two channels at the same time....you would need a second box for this facility but cannot get a second sky sub without an active phoneline..

    Thanks for the information.

Quick question - it sounds from your response that I cant get sky multi room without an active phone line, is this correct and if so, why?

Sky use the caller-ID of your phone to verify that each Sky box on the same account is originating from the same household. Otherwise, someone could take out a multi-room subscription and use the boxes in different houses. They are very strict about this. You must have each box connected to the same phone line, and they must be able to make calls at regular intervals. Otherwise Sky will automatically whack you with a full subscription for each box. They are completely within their rights to do this - it is all in the terms and conditions. If you want Multiroom or if you want to use any of the interactive services like Box-office, you must have a working phone line.

You have the choice of paying for extra Sky subscriptions for each room or getting a phone line - probably better to get the phone line, and get decent broadband with it, presuming you haven't got it already. Other option you have is to go Free-to-air, but this may not suit you if you are getting Sky for Sky Sport.
