I know we all bitch about Ireland, but our justice system is waaay better than this.
Girl gets a year in jail, 100 lashes for adultery
    By Adnan Shabrawi
JEDDAH – A 23-year-old unmarried woman was awarded one-year prison term and 100 lashes for committing adultery and trying to abort the resultant fetus.
The District Court in Jeddah pronounced the verdict on Saturday after the girl confessed that she had a forced sexual intercourse with a man who had offered her a ride. The man, the girl confessed, took her to a rest house, east of Jeddah, where he and four of friends assaulted her all night long.
The girl claimed that she became pregnant soon after and went to King Fahd Hospital for Armed Forces in an attempt to carry out an abortion. She was eight weeks’ pregnant then, the hospital confirmed.
According to the ruling, the woman will be sent to a jail outside Jeddah to spend her time and will be lashed after delivery of her baby who will take the mother’s last name. – Okaz/SG
    And before anyone says anything
*Yes she lives in Saudi Arabia so she shouldn't have hitchhiked.
*Yes she lives in Saudi Arabia so she shouldn't have sought an abortion.
*Yes she lives in Saudi Arabia so she shouldn't have admitted that she was raped.
*Yes she lives in Saudi Arabia so she should be grateful not to get the death penalty.

That's not the point, it's still wrong.

Doesn't take this kind of ****ing madness to make me glad i live in Ireland.

    No.

It just makes me glad I don't live in Saudi Arabia.

I would be glad to live there. At least I could sleep soundly at night knowing my OH is too afraid to even dream of sleeping with somebody else. :D

Sounds similar to the Irish justice system tbh

Saudi Arabia, where it's her fault if she gets raped.
All those oil countries suck big time.

I can't wait to see the whole place go under when the oil is depleted. I really can't wait. Countries like that should be just nuked. If it's like this for women over there, then the people are probably better off dead.

Once we clean them out of oil we can invade them and set ties wimmin free. On the other hand, you have to pay certain women here to lash them so maybe their free option is better.

Reminds me of when I was on this website about Ireland. There was this article and then the comments below is made me lol and cringe. One of the comments said something like "I love Ireland. It's so peaceful...especially the rural areas" then some idiot american replied "Peaceful? Why don't you go to Leesh (Yes he spelled Laois horribly wrong) where women are still stoned for cheating on their husbands then come back and tell me Ireland is peaceful"

I think he meant "where women get stoned and cheat on their husbands".

if youre glad you live in ireland, go start the car and rev it in park. you know what that sound is? Its the sound of money being siphoned to Saudi Arabia.

I know we all bitch about Ireland

    And really we shouldn't.
I don't bitch about Ireland because I truly think it is a great country.
As Dragan said, it doesn't take a poor Saudi woman being lashed for being raped to make me glad that I live in Ireland.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭Highsider

Ya mean the same Ireland where a pervert can go into a house and lift a 5 year old girl out of her bed whilst she sleeps and carry her down the stairs to go and do god knows what with her and gets out on bail only to go and beat a woman to death...yeah our justice system is way better alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭emy-87

That makes me so angry. The poor girl's life is ruined and all they care about is preserving her dignity or some ****e like that. No mention of prosecuting her attackers. Absolutely disgraceful. Ok so Ireland isnt one of the best places to live at the moment but I would choose Ireland over Saudi Arabia any day of the week. If for some mad reason I could only emigrate to Saudi Arabia, I would stay here and be glad that I dont live in that hell-hole.

"Outraged? I'm barely surprised. This is a country where women aren't allowed to drive a car. They're not allowed to be in the company of any man other than a close relative. They're required to adhere to a dress code that would make a Maryknoll nun look like Malibu Barbie. They beheaded 121 people last year for robbery, rape, and drug trafficking. They have no free press, no elected government, no political parties. And the Royal Family allows the Religious Police to travel in groups of six carrying nightsticks and they freely and publicly beat women. But 'Brutus is an honorable man.' 17 schoolgirls were forced to burn alive because they weren't wearing the proper clothing. Am I outraged? No. . . . That is Saudi Arabia, our partners in peace."

The Irish justice system is hardly a paragon - e.g. Roscommon woman getting seven years for abusing all her children and making them live like animals, can't get anymore due to a law going back to 1908.

Relatively short sentences for murders, rapes, vehicular homicide and manslaughter and other violent crimes.

White collar crime ignored or else rewarded by the perpetrators being given a slap on the wrist and let retire with a huge pension - or taxpayers money being used to bail them out.

    etc. et-bleedin'-cetera.

I complain about Ireland in the full knowledge that other places are worse, but accepting mediocrity is part of the problem is it not?

I wasn't aware anyone had demonstrated a determinable inferior and superior race of people. In fact, its the artificial diviision into 'inferior; and 'superior' that lies at the root of the treatment of this poor woman, both at the hands of her attackers and the so-called justice system.

All that is true, but it is the exact opposite of the Saudia System. We are too lenient, both on blue-collar and white -collar crime. A happier medium is needed, although I dont think we need to be as severe as the US.

The problem with ireland is that its a country full of genius, but with absolutely no talent:pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,376 ✭✭✭✭rossie1977

60 years ago blacks in america were not allowed in hotels, restaurants schools, had their own drinking facilities even famous people like jesse owens and sammy davis jr were treated like crap

in ireland we all turned a blind eye to the abuse being carried out by the catholic church between 1950-80, this is ireland where playboy and the exorcist were still banned in the early 1990s

don't for a second believe we are light years ahead of saudi arabia because we ain't

Saudi Arabia is one of the most oppressive shitholes on Earth. Women are treated like dirt, there's no democracy, the country is run according to a barbaric, medieval version of sharia "law", etc, etc. Plus Bin Laden and most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis.

I really am totally at a loss to understand why the neo-cons didn't turn the place into a gigantic mushroom cloud. What could possibly have stayed their hand?:rolleyes:

What does that have to do with anything ? I'm sure there have been Irish terrorists, look to the north in the 80/90's. Should we brand all Irish as terrorists as a result of that ?

Its a fairly backwards place but only in areas. I'm in and out of the country a fair bit. Some places are very westernised (well .. by Saudi standards) but some areas (think the equivalent of the inbred parts of the south in america) are like what was described.

Even the Westernized places have the strongest from of Sharia law in the world. Far worse than Iran, for instance. jus cos the buildings are tall does not mean the laws are liberal.

Yes we are. Because Ireland was stil a democracy when the Catholic church influenced policy, and we the people made the laws. Saudi Arabia is a absolute Kingdom with medieval relgious law and religious police.

Whataboutary rears is stupid ugly head once again.

No, and I'm not saying all Saudis are terrorists. But the fact that the country has produced some of the most notorious terrorists in recent history is yet another problem in a litany of problems that Saudi Arabia has.

Notorious because they blew up a few yanks. If they'd gone down the Congo or Rwanda and committed literal butchery for a few years, most of the world would be none the wiser.

Oh we definitely hear about Rwanda. There is a spurt in references to Rwanda everytime an anniversay of 9/11 comes up, as the same old bores bring out their "what about rwanda" argument.

    Also there was a movie.

But indeed, far too much time is spent on fashionable left wing news. Palestine my ass. What about the Burmese cultural genocide against Christians? Treatment of Christians in Saudi Arabia etc.
