Will we ever march and use our voice?

Given the current situation of the country, one has to wonder if we will ever move from the arm chair politics and actually bother doing anything?

Are we just going to talk ourselves to death so to speak? Will anything ever be done?

Will we ever grow the balls to rise up or are we hoping someone else will bother their arses to do it and we can just retire to the armchair and, well, just comment. As is done here?

The government can find 7 billion out of nowhere but cuts back on 7 million for needy kids?

Will we ever voice our opinion of do we just text newstalk and be done with it?

How can you lump the Irish farmers in with the French?, the French are in a league of their own when it comes to protesting, premier league material imo.

    Hi Sir,

I used the term needy to get my point across. They are actually retarded children who have special needs, I thought that was obvious.

If you do in fact fit into that category please help with the protest or I can send you an information pack?

This. This is the clincher. It's all well and good going up through the centre of Dublin, placards in hand protesting against the government, against the bankers, demanding that something be done and all that. But what affect would it have? And what kind of numbers would turn out? In London in 2003 there was a million people out to protest against their government's participation in the invasion of Iraq. To what affect? It didn't change, or influence government policy in the slightest. The same would be here. How will some people out marching, chanting and brandishing affect anything? How will it impinge on government decisions? It won't, and it can't.

The level of local support for the occupation in Waterford, the 12,000+ turnouts for various marches on education cuts, medical cards and third level fees, the result of the first ballot of Dublin Bus workers, the manner in which for the first time in the states history Labour (who I dont see as any real alternative, but its still hugely symbolic if nothing else) have overtaken FF in the polls, the fact the public have real hate-figures in the form of Seanie Fitzpatrick and Cowen and the fact unemployment is rising by the day to me says a huge public showing of anger is not alone on the cards- but indeed overdue.

There's a real need to connect all the dots first though.

General Strike, the way to go. Look at France and Greece. I think the problem at the minute is the 'worker versus worker versus student versus student worker versus everyone and anyone else'. Basically, the letters page of the Times, or the Tribune or any other paper reads like this:

"I'm a Private Sector worker, bolocks to that lot expecting X,Y,Z"
"I'm a Public Sector worker, the cheek of that crowd...."
"I'm a student with two jobs, let ______ pay fees and feck them"

    etc.

The need for solidarity is critical, and to be honest has to come before any real worthwhile mobilisations can take place. It would not be impossible to bring the city to a standstill. In fact, I can truthfully see it happening as things get worse.

And was your disgust enough to convince them to reply with "Oh now we have seen the light and we shall endeavour change their evil ways?"
Or did they have any effect whatsoever?

I was thinking they could hijack all the signs on the womens mini marathon, there's always a good turnout for that and us ladies would be oblivious to the mark we would be making on the retarded needy children.

We will definately take to the streets soon, without a doubt, the amount of money this government need to find to prop us up is unimaginable.

They are going to have to tax us to the high heavens for this country to survive, the full extent of how fupped we are isn't even half known yet folks.

It looks bad now but it's going to get alot worse, big pay cuts, huge unemployment, massive taxes. They are all needed within the year or Ireland will default and become another Iceland.

We are oh so close to runs on banks, and tottaly collapse.

The riots will happen. The scary thing is nobody has a clue when, its just a waiting game until it all comes falling down.

Which will significantly reduce consumer spending and savings and will discourage job creation. We are really in the ****, the budget will be very interesting later in the year, they really have to get it right, think outside the box,be inventive, though I have very little confidence the current clowns will get it right, afterall they have wasted the wealth this country had during the Celtic tiger :(
