    B & H Superstore at 9th Ave. & 34th St. Note that it's a Jewish store and they don't open on Saturdays or Jewish feasts, I just checked their (Jewish) Holiday Schedule and you'll be fine over Paddy's week apart from the usual Saturday closing.

    Adorama very similar to B&H, not so busy, but same opening hours/holidays

    Bear in mind that you'll be paying 8.375% NYC sales tax, I just checked the B & H website and the Nikon 70-300mm VR lens is USD 520 which with sales tax comes to USD 563.55 or Eur 439, it's GBP 369 in Jessops which equates to Eur 417 plus if you buy in UK/Ireland you'll have a usable guarantee.

    So I'd check B & H for the variety but you won't necessarily get a bargain compared to the prices over here. I bought a camera in December and had a colleague going to the US but when I did my homework the only stuff that was cheaper in the US was the SB600 flash and SD memory cards, I bought everything else via mail order from Jessops.

    Dont assume that you will actually save money on the purchase in NYC.

    When you take the current FX rate and the NY sales tax into account you may be similar or even more expensive in NY than the current cost in Ireland (when Norther Ireland anyway). And that is before any further potential cost in Ireland for VAT and Duty

    Example

    D300 body = $1800 (B&H) + sales tax @ 8.375% = $1951 @ 1.29 = Eur 1512 + potential Irish VAT & Customs

    D300 = STG£1029 (Calumet UK) @0.90 = Eur 1143

    So in this case it is cheaper to buy in "Ireland" and you have an european warranty and can easily return to the shop if there was a problem....

    Ya BH photo video is your man. Although bring a bib because you won't stop dribbling. They are one of the largest photographic retailers in the world. They have a top website as well. Have bought somethings online but not the place to buy small accessories and stuff because their shipping is crazy.
