Recommend a Video Sender [Sky Digital]...

So, I'm looking to get a video sender compatible with a basic, standard Sky Digital box. It only has to tranmit to the room below where the box currently is, so it signal strength isn't super important.

I've had a search around here for "Video Sender", but I haven't seen any stand out recommendations. I was hoping someone could help me out!

    1. It must be able to transmit video straight from the Sky Box (SCART, I'd imagine) and it must also be able to transmit IR (for changing channel, etc.).
    2. I've heard that the 2.4 Ghz boxes often don't play nice with Wifi, although you can put them at opposite ends of the spectrum as far as I know. How much of a problem is this in practicality?
    3. I'm aware that there's 5.8 Ghz transceivers available, but that they're illegal here. Has anyone ever seen them in action? Are they any better quality / compatibility-wise as a matter of interest?

I'm in Dublin and would love to pick up one of these tomorrow (Maplins? Argos?) if at all possible!

    Thanks in advance!

I got a 2.4Ghz one recently. Works fine with Sky, when the Wifi is off. Otherwise I can't use it. It has 4 channels but all 4 channels get interferance.

I got one for my folks too and it works great for them (NTL) and they've got Wifi too. Don't know why.

I wouldn't buy one again. I only found out about the 5.8Ghz ones recently. Wouldn't mind trying one of those out.

The 5.8 GHz ones are technically illegal in Ireland as they interfere with WiFi and Registered but licence free WWAN (Wireless Internet Providers). Using them could be blocking a neighbours Internet.

If you set the WiFi to 802.11a (5.8GHz), 802.11b or 802.11g at ch 11 or 13 and the video senders at A, or Wifi at 1 and Video Senders at D, it may work.

802.11g Turbo, or MIMO WiFi or 802.11n won't let the Video senders work

Your laptop has to be be compatible and few do 802.11a or chs 12, 13

Virtually any Video sender will work with Sky. It's only the IRDA standard IR remote used on a few models of UPC/NTL cable/MMDS boxes that is a problem for most video senders.

You can get adaptors to put RGB SCART and Stereo on 2x CAT5 cables...

I have the digisenders that are in argos. I have my wifi set to channel 1 (Lowest) and digidenders to channel D or 4 (Highest), Just like Watty suggests. Only thing that interfears with it now is the microwave, but recently now for some strange reason the microwave doesnt seem to interfear with them.

Just to note, i brought mine in argos in the north, saved a fortune compared to down here. Maplins as well is much more expensive here than the north.
