The recipe I'm making tomorrow (shepherds - cottage if you're being pedantic - pie) calls for beef stock. I want to get up early enough and start making it, but I have no beef stock. I have chicken stock and I have beef gravy. Would either of these be a suitable substitute or am I going to have to put on some pants this Sunday for a change :p?

a good beef gravy would be great in a cottage (I'm pedantic) pie.
If the gravy is a bit thick just leave out some flour or other thickeners in the recipe.
