Working on the label :) - been enlightening :)

Now have digital distribution sorted for all the portals, legal, agents/pr for releases ready, basic marketing plans sorted to 2 campaigns for about 8-10 tracks this year (this first year is just toe dipping and learning).

Coded the whole site to help me organize and remember details - so that i can keep a log of pending tasks and live contacts... The coding was hard as hell... never worked so hard ever - the site looks fairly basic, but there's a great management system behind it now :)

As i'm self financing it this year (as it's mostly friends) - this year will be a relaxed one compared to what will probably have to happen next year.

I have about 10 artists lined up - all warned and aware of the fact that it's early days and helping out where they can also :)

Basically ironing out the kinks as i go along :)

working on a radio edit for a fothcoming release(i have no idea why they want one)
got two remixes to finish before i pack up my studio gear and move from new york to oz.
also have to do a better mixdown of a track i did a few months ago that has been getting a bit of interest.

    Workin' on keeping my job!

Also working on collecting some more sound making tools, namely amps.

Logically enough I suppose whilst I have access to some of the best recording tools available, if the sounds that are being made to be recorded aren't up to scratch it's missing the point a bit.

So we're building up a guitar/amp/FX collection in tandem with a Drums/Percussion collection for bands I work with.

We're also thinking of opening a Studio 2 for editing/ programming/ minor overdubs etc.

Great ideas for the nut-place. That a couple of classrooms and you'd have yourself a wee industry.

Have you much vintage equipment? The reason I ask is because the demand for vintage gear is high. I call a friend of mine Glen from the band 'The Urges' and he has many vintage keyboards and guitars etc.. If I wasn't openng a new studio (overheads etc..) I could have got into vintage gear but for now I just have to hire Glen to come in and do session guitar work, works well for both of us, it means I have access to that 1968-1970 sound on the guitar and bass if needs be.

Not really, I try not get distracted with the concept of vintage, rather just 'good' or even 'I like' ...

    Vinatge means old.
Certainly with amps, unless they're maintained with Electrolytic Caps changed every few years, vintage means bad.

What about vintage synths and vintage guitars surely they don't need pieces replaced?? I am just asking because it is a relatively interesting topic. I would like to know more about vintage and what it really means.

Amongst other things, I've an old Korg Trident MKII synth that needs parts and it's been a mare trying to source them. Even when they have been sourced the suppliers haven't always responded to enquires or they don't ship to Ireland etc, etc.
Lately I've been thinking of having it play a drone, then setting it alight and recording it's dying output.
    Or just setting it alight.

....but having said that, the synth is about 25 years old, still sounds great and is fixable. How many 'soft' synths realistically last that long, through OS updates and what not.

I am doing very well my friend.
Up to my knees in remixes and the like, playing a good few gigs, earning a few bob here and there (not much but enough).
Actually getting some paid remixes now so all is going according to plan.

It is such a pain in the ass how slow the record releasing process is though. I have releases coming out all the way til the end of 2009, which is nice but a few more on some bigger labels before the summer would mean a nice little run of the bigger european festivals. Ah sure not to worry.

As far as the recession goes, it's great for me as rent is now cheap and me and the missus are gettin our own place while being able to live relatively comfortably. I'm still thinkin of going to Law School or Med school when I'm thirty (long way away thankfully).
