It would be nice to have a workshop or more about the technical details and possibilities. Like:

    Gearbox for Beginners
    1) Disassembly of some standard rifles like M4, AK, G3/MP5, etc.
    2) Disassembly of gearbox versions 2 and 3
    3) How to shim
    4) How much silicon grease is enough
    5) How to put together again

    Airsoft Electrics
    1) Which wires and how to connect
    2) How to create your own battery pack
    3) How to solder a MOSFET
    3) how to solder a 3-round burst

Is there any community hall, where you have enough space and desks?

If someone can provide the space I'd be willing to help out with instruction.

Good idea. Maybe one of the shops or some one in the know could make some videos to put on their site/boards and do a series of videos. That way more people can access them.

There are maintenance videos on YouTube already, and plenty of tips on the web. Go look for them.

I think this is a great opportunity for one or more of our fine retailers (nudge, nudge Tony). Also, if every retailer did it, it would be great for the country-based players. And a fine opportunity for the IAA to maybe coordinate a roadshow, hosted by the retailers in turn?

    Winners all round!

Sure I know that but whats better than learning from someone you trust and them showing you what to to on the exact same gun that you bought from him?? Just video the classes so all of the customers from around the country can learn from the masters.

    afaik

Opening gearboxes etc that you buy from retailers both here and abroad voids your warranty.

Its like opening your xbox and trying to fix it. Although its great in theory, problems will probably arise for all in involved really.

I for example, open gearboxes and they pop up into my face :O I'm Masadas worst bloody nightmare in fairness :D

Then again its a very constructive idea. I'd be more for educating people on good AEG and GBB maintenance. And maybe a workshop lecture on how to actually take hits : /

i thuink that you need to be pretty confident to do that stuff and its not for everyone takes a good few goes before things go smoothly

TBH there are plenty of online resources available for now, which cover these things.

Perhaps people can video themselves doing work, and put it on youtube if its a new gun or technique, and submit them to mechbox.com to link to, keeping it all in one place, as alot of this info is already out there.

This could either be like a government public sector project, idealistic but starting from scratch and ignoring work thats already been done on the subject hence reinventing the wheel, often badly, and being more or less useful than an existing project.

Or like I think it should be done, by adding to existing resources, and adding to work already done, rather than re-doing it.
If you get a WE luger going full-auto, and google that, you'll probably find my guide to dealing with that (disclaimer, never got it working fully :().
If you have a new gun or gearbox to repair, add to the existing information online by making a guide to that particular work.

These guides are out there in video form or written form, or both, if people wont google it, starting a new website from scratch is worthless, it will not cover everything, and get lost on the internet like everything else.

If you don't use the tools available to you, google for example, no new site will help. If you do want to help, add videos to youtube, or written guides to the forum trouble shooting area, these will be found by people who look for them.

Seeing it in person would be nice, but bar a difficult to organise roadshow, online sources are your best bet, and continuing to contribute to them is most worthwhile as far as getting the information to people who need it.

    +1

I do think the roadshow idea is worth a try at least. If it doesn't work, fair enough. They seem to be having great success with their Open Days down in the sunny South East.

(I think the retailers should host/sponsor their local events, I only suggest the IAA in a coordinating role. I guess the IASRA could equally well do it instead. The main thing is to spread out the events, both geographically and temporally. And it'll get people to mix and socialise.)

I'd love to see something like this,

At the moment my m4 is giving me more hassle, I know pretty much what is wrong but don't have the skills to fix it, don't know what I am looking at, and to bring it to a retailer would cost me the standard opening a gun fee, which costs a fair bit for a feckin' student.

And internet resources are great but like in DOC's case for example, no internet resources will tell you what the bit is called that jumped out of your gun :P With a person right there if something goes wrong there is something that you can do about it.

From my quick scan over the above, WTF lads?

    http://www.mechbox.com/

Simple as, its all there, well, its constantly expanding but it covers nearly everything you need on the most common gear.

its a good idea ,some diy shops run similar with how to tile and stuff,

watching videos is one thing ,but being in a room with 1 or more guys who know what there doing and being able to ask questions would be a big help to anybody who had never tinkered with a aeg or gbb ,
at the end of the day we are a community and we should share resources and knowledge for those who dont want to have to rely on others to fix sometimes basic issuse's,

Airsoft masterclass ,basic maintaince and repairs

yeah its pretty rough for us down here in the south east though, if we get a problem or so theres no techies down here so we could be waiting months jsut to get a chance to bring our aeg up to be sorted:(

Actually, there's an idea. Remote assitance for our more rural brethren. Two webcams, two mics, skype...easy to set up and would be a great learning experience for the "gearbox virgins".

I'm off on midterm so I'd be willing to try this out some time this week if anybody wants to give it a go. Drop me a PM if you do:)

would it t be an idea if all those who are intrested in helping or interested in attending
adding there name to a list then seeing if we can book a hall somewhere ,
then maybe take it on the road for the likes of SE ,and other sites counrtywide,

Sounds like a good idea, i know theres something similar in the pipeline regarding paint effects etc.,

Id be happy to give a run down on whats what in the gearboxes and show people how best to diagnose faults etc.
If your ever in Eirsoft or were at the IAA stall in the salute military show you will have seen the stripped out M4's on display that have had parts of the gearbox shell machined to display the internal parts in their positions etc, to show what makes the gun tick. its in ingenious idea and build by KD and It really helped in discribing what does what when people would ask me for tips in the past.

i know a lot of people mentioned using the likes of Mechbox and the likes, but beware that the instructions aren't always as accurate as you might expect. ive seen a few of them where they would do something in a roundabout way when theres an easier one.

I just bought a new lathe today too so might be able to put that to use if we do some sort of demo., :)

Hell I'd definitely be interested in a workshop. I want to upgrade my AEG's but I'm afraid of those tiny springs popping out...You know the ones I'm talking about :P.
