Hi! Myself & my friends are going to Boston for the summer but we're finding it hard to get jobs & accommodation already. I've no doubt we're not the only ones but for anyone that went 2 Boston last summer, have you got any tips? Or for anyone going there this summer, have you found any jobs or places to stay? (BTW We're all female so the gentlegiant moving company's not really for us!:o) I'd appreciate any help at all!

    It's a recession...

Finding a job will be much harder this year than it was last year. Good luck with it anyway.

i was in boston last summer, got in touch with cousins i had never met who got me a great (v well-paid) job and a great place to live - rent free. but i was extremely lucky. i plan on going back this summer. i havnt looked into accom much but id say cambridge might be the best area. its gonna be tough to get a job but try and apply to as many places as you can now. look up internships online or get in touch with anyone you might know over there...i learned the hard way last year when i ended up being paid about 150 dollars a week on the cape before moving to boston. good luck!

Its hard enough in boston to get a job even without the recession...friend of mine went over 2 years ago for the summer but came home earlier because he couldnt get a job..

Hi there - Myself & 5 friends took off to Boston summer of 2007... (3 guys, 3 girls).. Luckily we managed to get a savage apartment on craigslist before we got over there... it was being refurnished when we found it(around April time) & the guy told us he would have it finished when we arrived. It was a house split into 2 apartments, but it was very nicely done up - and was very cheap too (like $360 -> around 280euro each at the time per month).. it was in Brighton, very close to Boston College, and right on a T-line also(which you will become familiar with..) So give craigslist a try now, and start wiring a deposit to guarantee a house - If you want to IM me I can give you the guys number as he might know of houses/apartments available... 2 girls of the group got work 2 weeks into the trip.. they worked in Emack & Bolio's ice cream shop on Newbury street.. money was ok and got good tips.. and got the job by just walking in and asking for a job. Myself and the 3 other lads managed to get a job in the same place the whole summer which was great, it was called the Boston Pushcart on Long Wharf, basically it was a food cart.. but we got to work outside which was great.. the work was tiring though... often working LONG hours.. so I would suggest heading down there. Otherwise most places won't give out jobs until you have a social security number which is a pain as it takes up to 6 weeks to process, so we were lucky after 3 weeks to all have found jobs... We met people from Ireland in jobs like Starbucks etc., that hated them so much. But make sure you go job hunting immediately - best thing is people do actually call you back with interviews or with just not being interested which is a nice change from here! Don't give up after 3 weeks and just head home, we met so many people like that at the start who were just going home. If you can do your best to get settled before heading over then do... and trust me... Craigslist is your God in Boston..
