I'm trying to get the wireless card intel 4965 agn working under gentoo. vanilla kernel 2.6.27 using in-kernel Iwl drivers.

The card supports scanning using iwlist and returns the ap no problem. Can set it up using iwconfig no problem. but when it tries to associate with the AP dmesg shows it associating and then disassociating immediately again and again. Ultimately leaving it unassociated.

It's definitely not a password, config issue. Tried every possibility, also it does associate, briefly.

Has anyone got this card working under linux? If so what kernel and any tricks to it?

I've googled(a lot) and found some people having the same difficulty but with very few offered solutions and none that worked for me.

I think I'm going to upgrade to kernel sources not marked as stable if I can't think of anything else. The other alternative is a compat package that allows you to use the latest version of the Iwl drivers even with them built into the kernel. I haven't fully investigated that.

The computer is dell M1330 and I have an x86_64 build.

Really, I'm completely out of ideas so any crazy suggestions are welcome!

For anyone else that stumbles upon this problem. I upgraded to 2.6.28-r1 (from 2.6.27-r8) and it worked. Valentines day well spent :)
