ok today i got the fright of my life, i was upstairs when i heard my next door neighbour shouting at someone, its a quiet estate and it isn't the norm so i went outside to see was everything ok. there was 2 young scumbags trying to get over my wall into the back garden. She had noticed them passing her window and went to investigate. She hunted them away and they left. It got me thinking though, what if she hadnt seen them, my son was downstairs sleeping in his buggy and i was upstairs, what if they had come in? Could i hit em with, say a hurl, and get away with it. It scares the living poo outta me that they could have got to my baby and i wouldnt have heard. I know they werent after him and probably would have ran once they knew someone was in the house but you don't know what the robbin b****** would do if disturbed. I've learnt my lesson now, my baby will be with me wherever i go now. They've ruined my house now cause I'm absolutely terrified they'll come back and try again. The circus came to town today is it a coincidence or not that someone tried to get in to my house today
PS sorry if its not right forum

They were at most trespassers and not burglars. I have had two men trespass on my property and they called the gardai after i beat them off my property. The gardai gave out to me.!

Look, everyday you see women leave their baby in a buggy on the floor while they are away at a counter talking to someone. There are buggies with babies all over the place.Mummy is often away dealing with something or a some young child is left on the street looking after the buggy. The same "scumbags" are around them everyday. There is no difference in their behaviour, it is in fact your behaviour that is different. They could have just been getting their football from the back garden.

"Panic" You will get some young lad locked away over nothing because of this paranoia. In saying that you could get a variety of security systems that will alert you by alarm if their is an intruder on your premises. Their are flood lights which can work by alarm. "Scumbags" also known as kids can be easily deterred with proper kid proofing, such as secure walls fences and simple security perimeters. A determined kidnapper could strike when your on the street or getting into your car and a cctv system in and around your house would be useful.

    or

You could get a very active dog. A small one that barks like crazy. These are great deterrents. I would avoid Alsatians as they can be a much greater risk than an intruder.

Coincidence, I'd say. And probably two little brats, not murderers.

A few years ago I had the hose running through the house to the front garden, so the front door was open. I was in the living room when I heard something outside in the hall.

I went out and jumped out of my skin - there was a big young lad sneaking through. "Jesus, you startled the life out of me!" I said.

"You startled the life out of me!" he said.

"What are you doing here, by the way?"

"I'm looking for, uh, Mrs Smith's house, is this it?"

I denied any knowledge of Mrs Smith - or whatever the makey-uppy name was - and we parted cordially.

Certainly there are bad people in the world. But not every would-be robber is violent or horrible.

oh i know they were only chancers seein what they could get and not would be kidnappers. all im saying is it frightened the life out of me that he was downstairs and anything could have happened. Paranoia? Hardly when they tried to jump my high wall they had hoods up on them covering their faces and ran away when the lady next door caught them. They have no reason to be in my garden so I have every right to be angry at the little thugs. I was just wondering what would happen if i did hit them, would i be in more trouble?

You can only use reasonable force to remove them. If they are bad they will act bad so if it escalates then you can meet them at every level of aggression they exhibit,

What chance has your baby got if you get sent down for assault? Keeping all easy to access doors and windows secure is much better then hitting them. Aren't a huge % of burgularies from occupied premises.
