Do I Notify Insurance Company?

Hi All - I was in a garage today and a van hit the side of my car (3 month old honda civic)... The damage is minor enough, about 1 ft square of paintwork damage but its not too deep. I was parked at the time and the other driver apologised and accepted full responsibility. I have all of his insurance details etc but he wants me to get an estimate and settle in cash.

I notified the local garda station about the accident.

Do i need to notify my own or his insurance company about the accident?

    Thanks

Yeah ring them, tell them what happened & that you are dealing with the claim yourself. When you get sorted out, ring them & say its been sorted & ask th close the claim off.
Just be careful once you report a claim your no claims bonus is stepped back but will be fully reinstated once claim is settled with no payments.
Just make sure its all sorted before you renewal date so you get terms based on your full NCB.

Who's your insurer? I was hit very shortly before renewal last time and I had the letter from Quinn stating that the accident would be recorded on file but have no effect on my premium or NCB within about three days of reporting it - despite the fact the new bumper hadn't even arrived from Poland yet!

ring them & ask or if your thru a broker ring them as they can advice you better.
I don't know if reporting the claim so close to renewal date will affect your renewal as youve already been offered terms.

Surely if the other party admitted liability and push came to shove the OP would be claiming off the other party's insurance so his own NCB will not be touched?

The OP could also claim from their own insurance company who would then reclaim it from the other company. The OP in this case could lose their NCB (temporarily) and (IIRC) could also have to pay an excess.

"Could" being the word to note, Why wold someone claim off their own insurance when a 3rd party is liable? Is there some benefit to it?
I had to claim once (off other driver) and i just called the other persons insurance and they had me bring my car to a repair centre to be fixed and it was sorted in a couple of days.
It had no effect on me other than being given a Micra as a replacement car (same as the car that hit me :D)

There wouldn't normally be a benefit but if the other party's insurance company disputed liability and you needed a set of wheels then...
