Getting long hair

Hey Im a guy with short enough hair, Just wondering, how can I get my hair to grow kina long but without gettin all bushy. When I dont cut it I t just gets all bushy and stuff, but can look cool when its wet. How do I get it to grow out long, down and thin and kinda wavy! Cheers
