Just wondering has anyone used a Gotoh Floyd? If so, what did you think of it? Anything I've read so far hasn't been too helpful so just fishing for advice!

If you have used one how do you think it measures up against, say the Ibanez Lo-Pro or an Original Floyd Rose (or a Pro)?

    Cheers once again!

My brother just got one for his B.C. Rich Ironbird, he says it's very well made. It hasn't been installed yet though.

Just be aware that with the Gotoh Floyd the block is about 10mm longer as this was designed for guitars without a recessed trem.

    Yup,

got one on my Bacchus Empire. Not much else to say other than it sustains like a bastard and it never goes out of tune. Ever. Ever. Ever.

    Ever.

I like that I can adjust how loose or tense the bar is too. If you're used to playing an Edge then it's worth pointing out there's a different feel to an Edge. The bar comes up pretty high out of the baseplate and is bent 90 degrees so its length runs parallel to the surface of the guitar body. On the Edge, as you know, it comes up at an angle from a low starting point, low over the volume knob, always getting further away from the guitar body as you move towards the end of the bar. It really affects the feel of the trem, I found, and I definitely preferred it to the Edge.

It's the same basic design as an original Floyd, so if that floats your boat over an Edge design then you're laughing.

I am the brotha, from da hood.
It's an awesome piece, 10 times better than an Original Floyd, and I haven't even installed it yet. As Dord was saying the the spring block is 41mm, but if you have a recessed floyd, the block will need to be 32 or 37mm. I have found someone to do the machining for me, not in Ireland.

The Gotoh is pure Japanese quality, the block is brass, which increases tone & sustain. The base plate is made from steel, unlike the cast Zinc alloys used in LFR's/OFR's.
Original floyd rose trem's are now made by various companies, the patent expired enabling every company under the sun to churn them out, at a very bad quality.
Schaller make their own floyd, with cast knife edges, that wear out quickly or crumble off. They also make Original Floyd rose too, as well as others.

Do your guitar a favor and buy a Gotoh. The black ones are VERY hard to get, i got mine from ebay member : rodira1 , aka Ray's Custom shop. Very helpful, and reasonably priced.
