I heard an ad on the radio early this week. It was for a garage offering a free safety test for cars. Has anyone else heard this? If so, could you tell me who it was please, I can't remember!

Just remember that it is free and they WILL find work that needs doing, just remember you are not obligated to get them to do the work.

I think I saw Mercedes Sandyford offer this.

Dont know who it is but you would be better going to your usual garage. These places only want to get your car in the door and then try and make money off it. It would most likely be a tyre/brakes/exhaust outlet that is offering this and I wouldnt go near them to be honest.
What safety testing are they going to do apart from look at the tyres and brakes and offer to fit new ones for you. Better go to a decent garage when your car is due a service and they will advise truthfully whether you need brakes/tyres etc

Thanks but I probably should have explained my position a bit better. Bought a car, came with one year warranty, its 6 years old. They told me it was fine but then I found some problems. Theyre going to have another look at it. Therefore I would have NO intention of paying someone else, as I can get it all done under the warranty. I would only be going there (pretending I'd be willing to pay) to get a test done.

They'd probably find a load of little things that need fixing and I'd prob get a list in print. I could then just say thanks and pass that on to my garage, where I bought the car.

They have told me already that they will fix ANY problem, so I may aswell take advantage of this. Bit cheeky.. but, you can't say you wouldn't do the same!

If only I could remember who it was... it was a fairly established place too, I think....

    Anyone?

A 6 year old car should be close to it's 2nd NCT, for €50 they'll do a full safety check and give you a print out. You can book in upto, I think, 3 months early. Much better NCT then some apprentice having a quick look. If NCT is already done ask a mechanic if they'll do a nixer and look the car over would be about the same and get a unbiased report.
