April i never seen it but nothing is absolute-if someone wants to fight you then they more than likely fight you no matter what you do..

    Hi April,

Actually, it's a good book and a very interesting read, but personally, I think the "Three Second Fighter" is much better.

I also seem to remember that the "Art of fighting without fighting", was available as a free download form Geoff's site. Not too sure if it still is tough.

    Cheers,

    Rob.

PS - just checked his site looks like you have to buy it now. :( Buy both if you can afford to imo.

Dunno about the book but..to "end a confrontation without violence" is the goal of a good martial artist in my opinion.

To be able to have the option is something isn't it? I've known many a doorman who've had this ability but had the physical skills to back it up.

I recently saw a very hostile and near-physical situation get subdued in a local Spar shop by the Pakistani staff with his sheer nonchalent and "not rising to the occasion" attitude. This comes from experience on his part but the next time the attacker might not be so subdueable or as willing to accept the non-loss-of-face given to him by the clerk... So martial arts might fill that gap but its no guarantee.

I've got it and it is an interesting read. (Quite short too)

Basically it advocates ignoring your ego, avoiding people and places that might get you in trouble and taking care of yourself. Most of which I do without thinking, but it is useful for someone who can fight and has build his reputation on his ability to fight say that fighting is not a good end.

It goes through the pre fight ritual, visual and verbal cues, etc. It is also full of anecdotes of incidents where either the ego was ignored and a fight was avoided or where the ego took control and a fight resulted in serious ramifications.

    Useful read, but nor essential.
