Fuse box problem

I've had a problem over the last week or so where a fuse that controls the upstairs lights trips out. It's happened 3 times, each when I was in the shower - I assume that moisture is getting to the bathroom light fitting, and I was planning on sealing it up this weekend..

Anyway, usually what happens is that the trip switch flicks off, and I reset this and away I go. This morning it happened, but the trip switch wouldn't flick back, and something in the fuse box (not sure what it is, some kind of cap that sits between the trip switches and the master switch) was really hot.

Is it a case of replacing the specific fuse for the upstairs lights, or could I be looking at a more serious problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Anything hot is never a good sign with electrics. I would agree with dave your best to get a sparks.

You should still do the sealing though, probably better to scrape the original mastic and redo with fresh stuff. Make sure to completely dry the surface before and allow 24 hours to dry.

Just to echo what the others have said, get a qualified electrician to look at it.

In general water and electricity are a dangerous mix. Anything electrical getting hot can represent a fire risk. This needs attention!

usually if there is a fuse getting hot it would be a loose connection causing arcing which is like welding, causing the connection to heat up,,,its not a big job if this is the case but call an electricien, so they can give the cables a once over

Your upstairs lights from the sounds of it are tripping from moisture from the shower. Check if the main fuse is hot when not using your shower? It could be just the extra demand of electricity for the shower they draw aload of electricty but get it checked. If you need a sparkie can contact me!!
