Porsche driver dies testing sports car

    13/02/2009 - 10:09:44

Porsche says one of its drivers has been killed while testing a sports car on a German motorway.

Police say the 51-year-old crashed the 911 Cabriolet into the centre guard rail of the A5 autobahn between Frankfurt and Heidelberg at 2.40am this morning. The driver, who had 25 years’ experience, died at the scene.

Porsche SE says he was part of a road endurance test in which three drivers drove the car non-stop in shifts around-the-clock. Spokesman Dirk Erat says high-speed tests are not done on open roads and the cause of the crash is unclear.

Another driver was testing a new four-door Panamera at the same time but was not involved in the accident.

Police, prosecutors and Porsche are investigating.

...it's a curious system Porsche have. They road test every single car out on the Autobahn. The car's go out the gate, turn right, down to the roundabout, and shoot up on to the ring road and Autobahn. The cars are fitted with Dataloggers, and the drivers have to check x number of things, en route. When they come back to the factory, they go in under the building to QC, and the data downloaded, and then the car is inspected. If you're a Cabrio driver, that's all you get to drive - to make the tests objective - they can't have people popping out of a Boxster and into a GT3 - the feedback they'd get would be too subjective.

So, yes, all Porsches have at least one 'careful' owner, and no, they don't come with zero miles on the clock !!

Of course, though, it'd never work here: for a start, half the cars would need new headlights and respray (stone chipped), a valet (shyte on the road), and probably tracking as well (just plain, shyte roads)

I did ask who pays the speeding tickets..........factory do. Look at it this way - with 5500k employees in the factory, the authorities are not going to hound them out of business........

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
