Is this too good to be true, or a sign of the times

I`m looking around for a new car (I think after 5 years of borrow his my dad might just want his back..). A big diesal is what I need, so Im looking at mondeos, passats and octavias the past while. Recent on carzone I have come across this guy http://www.carzone.ie/search/Ford/Mondeo/200852191310826/advert . He seems to be selling about 3-4 K cheaper than many garages. I know mondeos are popular for company cars and as rentals, so apparently they have a poor after sales value or whatever. So, do you reckon this guy is just being realistic and trying to actualy sell his cars, or is there a likely hood they were formerly wrapped around a lamppost or had the insides grinded out of them while they were rentals.

I dont wanna cast any bad images on the guy either, hes probably a decent guy trying to flog cars before the battery runs flat and mold builds up, but Im a suspicious guy at heart.

Nothing is moving really these days so I'd say that its priced to sell!

I would always be very cautious about second hand diesel rep mobiles, it could be quite legit but is could also be a clocked taxi with stellar mileage on its last legs. You need to be very careful and examine the car and its history very, very thoroughly.

No harm in being suspicious when it comes to buying second hand!

just a sign of the times i'd say, you can check the reg on cartell.ie if you wish, but i think he's just being realistic, theres lots and lots of unrealistic prices for cars on carzone.

Always best to get it checked out if you can anyway

It shuold be taken as gospel that a used car should be checked out properly before money is exchanged.

This crowd do seem slightly shady but I don't think they are. I bought a Mazda6 from them two years ago for an almost-suspiciously-low price......and had no problems whatsoever.

Car looks a bit rough. Where the front bumper meets the front wing looks a bit damaged. Whether it's their approach to selling cars, or esle it's genuinely rough, i don't know.

Remember that car is due an NCT this year.

Yip, damage to the drivers wing, and either missing a hubcap or alloy. It is also the Lx model, Low Extra's. 90bhp (won't pull your socks off), plastic interior, basic spec. Price looks a bit low, but then again, I seen 2006 models for not much more.

give the car a good look over and ensure the NCT is covered.

Look beyond the price of that car for the moment.

Crappy pictures of a half hidden car parked on top of other cars - what are they hiding? Missing wheel trim, damage to the driver's front wing, and what looks like a fairly worn front number plate. All the signs of a car that may not have had an easy life. Possible ex taxi or motorway muncher. I can see this from only the 2 poor pictures, I'd expect to find other things from a physical inspection of the car.

I'd imagine you will get a cleaner Mondeo from the UK for similar or less money and it will not have that old rattly TDDi engine either.

And I don't think that car is cheap taking the above onboard.

I used to work around there, and they seem to have been there years.

Are you in Dublin seclachi? I know Leaseplan are having a retail sale tomorrow at the back of Bewleys leopardstown. They have about 8 2004 and 2005 mondeos up for sale, cut out the middle man and buy direct from the leasing company. We use leasplan at work so i'm on their mailing list, pm me your email if you want the stock list sent on.

Slightly dodgy garage alright, but a lot of people have come out there with decent cars. Just be sure to get someone to look around first.

Winfield / Crawfords are having their liquidation auction on the Winfield site tomorrow. Could well be worth a look. ;)
