so do i keep running pill through or do i actually stop??
and pill booklet doesnt tell me what to do! obviously the painkillers effected the pill-very website has told me this as has readin other threads but none tell me what to do.

If you are concerned, then you can take two packets of the pill back to back, without break. This will not effect the efficiency of the pill.

Which painkillers are they? Usually it is only antibiotics that get you into trouble on the pill.

Careful now, I have a friend who got pregnant and she was on the pill and her doctor told her that it was because she took alka seltzer, maybe two or three, and that caused it to work. But in fairness she was well unlucky as well to get pregnant!

When on anti biotics and taking the pill and your pill pack finishes while taking the anti biotics you are supposed to start a new pack. however i havn't heard of the same case with pain killers.

Neurofen is a pain killer but if you take it you dont have to follow the same steps as in taking anti biotics.

If I was you I'd ring your doctor and ask him/her ;)

If it's just your housemate that's confusing you, don't listen to her... taking two packs back to back doesn't mean the pill won't work next month. No idea where she got that from. It's fairly common practice to take 2 packs back to back in order to skip a period or provide extra protection due to medication or whatever.

If there are 21 pills in the packet, take 7 days off, if there are 28 run through and no break.

    Hi there,

Please go along to your pharmacist and ask them. They are very helpful, really informative and FREE.

Ooh yes, ignore what I said and do this instead. Pharmacists are amazing!

Whoah, you can avoid having a period if you take two packs back to back?! How did I mis this in the booklet?!

Does anyone know if it's particularly bad to take the pill continuously then and never take a break?

That depends on the pill there are new generational pills which are desgined for that purpose.

Some brands/types are too harsh to do that with, again you should check with your dr.

Yes you can take two packs back to back in order to skip a period for example if you are going on holidays.

Each pill is different so as the poster above me has said, it is best to ask your doctor or pharmacist

To the best of my knowledge.........

It is only anti-biotics that have an effect on the pill.

And for certain you can take 2 packs, one after the other, this will mean you will not have a period until the end of the 2nd packet. I never felt comfortable taking 2 packs in a row though, to be honest.

that thing about the alka seltzer is a bit worrying...hope that's not true!!

Anyway taking two packets of the pill is fine, it's not recommended for certain brands to do it long term as you need to give your body a weeks break from the extra hormones. But going to the pharmacist is always a good idea, fantastic free medical advice :)

Anything that will mess with a woman's digestive system can possibly have a knock on effect on her taking the pill and how it is absorbed into her body.

There for over dosing on alka seltzer and taking your pill in an around that time can have an effect on how your body takes the pill in.

Same as purging your body by throwing up or using laxatives.

Thaed is spot on there. The pill needs to be absorbed through the stomach, so anything that interferes with the stomach can potentially reduce the effectiveness of the pill.

Please ignore this comment, and take the time to read the leaflet in your pill packaging, or talk to a doctor/pharmacist. I know for certain that Microlite, which is a 21 day pill, should be taken back to back if there is cause for concern.
