Paddy's Day celebrations can start early as we announce the forthcoming appearance of techno’s ultimate DJ duo ‘Frequency 7’!
Frequency 7 is a soundclash of styles from two mixmasters, Ben Sims vs Surgeon. Both undisputed leaders in their chosen musical disciplines, now performing together to create something truly fresh! They create a uniquely improvised experience from combining elements of techno, funk, dub, house, hip hop, disco, Industrial etc. and utilising turntables, CD decks, FX and all the latest Hardware/ Software technology.
Taking its name from the highly influential track Frequency 7 by 80´s electro pop outfit 'Visage', a futuristic electronic funk classic that was an inspiration for producers on both sides of the Atlantic, the project has been road tested in a series of secret gigs and audiences knew that they were at the birth of something special. A witness was heard to say, "This is the greatest thing that ever happened to me." To give you a better idea of what this new project is about please see these impressions given by the clubs who hosted a couple of first secret Frequency 7 shows:
"The buzz leading up to the event was tremendous, people were talking to each other about what they each expected from the performance, no-one however could have foreseen what was to take place. The crowd was treated to 4 hours of both Detroit styled Techno tangled with Surgeon's broken up twist on electronic music. Four hours went by in the blink of an eye with bodies being taken on a journey through proper electronic music with soul. This certainly kept everyone dancing into the night and even right through the week."
"this was a killer cocktail of styles with Sims and Surgeon serving up a wicked blending between analogue and digital and rocking the walls of Electric City's 3rd party. There was a great sense of energy transfer between the two guys that really worked the crowd." Since those early days Frequency 7 have played some great club shows and have headlined festivals in many countries worldwide, which Sims and Surgeon continue to do in '09.
Also appearing on the night is Irish dj supremo Sunil Sharpe. Sunil is one of the scene's great all rounders and one of our favourite djs at Collective Music. His sets attract the same type of interest as most international names and anyone who saw him play alongside Ben Sims and Josh Gabriel at our show in Andrew's Lane last August, know the type of special atmosphere he will create in the venue before Frequency 7. As always, we’re delighted to have Sunil on the bill at Collective Music.
Frequency 7's only other Irish appearance and recorded set is still talked about, and this promises to be another explosive performance for Collective Music. Two international heavyweights squaring off against one another, overseen by our own Irish techno general! Hope to see you there for a Paddy's Eve/Day spectacular!
