    Hello,

I am looking for an accountant or bookkeeper to help me setup my accounting system and show me a basic system for bookkeeping and accounting. I was thinking of using Sage but am open to others.
I'm looking to get this setup so that I can cut current bookkeeping
and accounting costs and manage other cash flow and costs etc...

Please PM with 3 employee references. Budget: 100e - 150euro

    Regards,

    KBolt

    Hi smcgiff,

I just like to get past references because if people you worked with in the past don't have anything nice to say than chances are, after we're done working together... I won't either. It's just been my experience.
Would you hire someone who can't provide references? I didn't think it was too much to ask...

    Regards,

    KBolt

You're looking for a service, not an employee. Would you go to a restaurant and ask the chef for references?

Look, do yourself a favour and let someone who knows what there doing look after your accounts. Do you think sitting down with someone for (looking at your budget) 3 hours max, will teach you how to keep your system in order and your allocations accurate?
You might just end up increasing your end of year accountancy bill because the accountant has to unravel your misgivings.

    Just my €0.02

    P.S: 3 referrees, thats a good one

P.S.S: Sage should only be used by someone who understands accountancy.

    Hi Kbolt,

Nothing wrong with looking for employer references per say. However, it's seems like overkill to ask someone for 3 references for €150 worth of work.

What accountant is going to allow three of his former employers to be called regarding what is most likely going to be a nixer?

You don't say what your finance experience is - If you've none, then getting all you want done in an evening is mighty ambitious.

    Good luck

    Hi

Why are picking sage sage is a fairly robust system. if you are only setting up as a sole trader if i was you i would look at Sage's baby brother Tas or there is a good program from the Uk called MYOB which is fairly good i have recommended it to many sole traders starting up. My personal 2 pence worth is get a low budget program if your starting up and then move up to the bigger program if need be. i have alot of experience setting up accountacy systems for small and medium business.

    Hey Johnp23

Sage Instant starts at 149+ Vat how much cheaper do you want to go

Yes it is cheap for that amount of money i would rather MYOB for a user who is unfamiliar with accounts or has no accounts background. im not slating Sage i think it is a good program sure i was in the dublin office this morning but personally for startup business MYOB wins hands down

    Hi,
Why don't you approach your existing bookkeeper for
    1) reducing his/hers fees which might sort out your poblem
    2) quote you a price for setting up your own system and training you.You could then agree an hourly rate for support.
