..apparently the digital switchover is coming and I won't be able to use my aerial any longer as the analogue signals will not be broadcast. I'll have to subscribe to Sky to get digital television, especially RTE & TV3.

She was very lucky that I was in a good mood.. but the poor girl was speechless to know that I am already receiving free digital satellite television from the UK & Germany and that right now I can receive free digital services from Three-Rock.

"But how does that work over an aerial?" .. "Why didn't they tell me this?".. well I gave her that answer.. "because they want you to go find people to sign up for Sky thinking that they have no other choice".. "which is a very very wrong thing for Sky to be doing."

I would ring sky and complain but I'd probably be made listen to a sweet talking Scot for an hour as she tried to find out why Sky did this and all along trying to coax me into signing up again.

God almightly!! Sure analogue wont be turned off here until 2012 at the earliest anyway!

Its a pity, though that most people she would have been calling to would have had no idea about DTT and fell for this sh*t

This shows that Comreg really need to start an advertising campaign about DTT.

Now now Zonda, are you forgetting what country you live in????? Comreg to notify the people about the 3 year transition to DTT, what they need to do, what equipment they might need, choices etc......? Now that would be a SENSIBLE approach to the situation but this is the country where we had a Financial Regulator who hadn't a clue about the messing going on in the banks, so why would the Communications Regulator be any better?.

Have to have a grudging respect for Sky and their scare tactics. Hell, they'll probably get a few thousand new customers who'll believe their bs. Meanwhile, I'm the proud owner of a new Freesat set up and now that its paid for, I've got free tv. :D

When we switched to Km/Hr speedos in cars, they were still selling cars with MPH speedos in May after the changeover. It should have been a requirement that the speedos were installed at least a year ahead.
The number of times I've asked about DTT in TV shops, to be told 'What's that ... Don't know about that... Yes all our TVs are HD ready ... etc. etc.'
Sony, Philips, Peats, DID, etc etc. Maybe I just got the ignorant ones!

As the head of General Motors said in the seventies, 'If we made boats, a lot of people would have drowned.'

DTT is the digital version of what you get over the aerial from RTE already, but with more channels.
It'll be like Sky, but with fewer channels, and somwhat more free.

*- May not be completely accurate, but that's what I've managed to pick up without investigating too much

i have given up on anyone in the any service knowing their job. last year i went with my brother to Dixins looking for a clock radio. the guy serving was amazed that there could be such an invention. we left him there in his bewildered state. drives me mad, send on the sky door callers, i'll straighten them out

Making a living is fine but blatant lying to do so is not acceptable.

I would think FTA satellite from Astra 1 and 2 for the German and UK television. RTÉ from Three Rock through the DTT.

I know lying isnt acceptable but some of what she said is true and im sure she was new and should of asked wether you were interested or not...

Being new at your job is no excuse for mis selling and everything you say about a product must be true not just some of it.

Tony im not being rude or ignorant but im only saying she might of been new and got nervous and panicked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,362 ✭✭✭✭Tony

So getting nervous or panicked makes you say things about a product that are not true? Give me a break she was mis selling, simple as.

No kidding? I thought that was obvious form the the way I added "in ireland" in capital letters to the end of your "sky don't sell FTA" comment.

Who's arguing? I called you on your careless and inaccurate comment so people don't go away thinking it's true, end of story.

ok danny. so the girl didn't get told everything about the product. not her fault but someone is being naughty and the girl is one in front of you. i'm sure we would all be gentlemen and fill her in on the slight untruth she was peddling and she could pull the head off her boss when she got back.
    solved

You were defending their behaviour ie defending the indefensible so in fact you were standing up for them and your Kit Kat comment is just juvenille. I agree you should leave the thread alone
