Hi there. I was wondering if someone might be able to help me. I am making an enquiry on behalf of a mate of mine. Two weeks ago he bought an old VW Bettle. The person who originally owned it is deceased and it has basically been lying in a shed for the past 15-20 years. It hasn't been taxed or insured during that period of time. Anyway, when he bought it, there was no tax book or registration plates. The only thing he has is the chassis number which he located on the car itself. He has been ringing around various places (tax office, revenue comm.) the last few days to try to get the original reg and details of the car but can't so far. Is there anything that he can do? Would it be possile just to write off the cars previous history and re-register the car completely?? Or what would be the easiest thing to do? I would be very grateful for any advice anyone might have.
