    Hi there,
This may not even be the correct forum but hopefully someone will have the answer.

Basically I work in THE most boring office in the world so there's never anything to do. I'm normally alone in my office so lately I've started watching tv shows online. My question is though, would my bosses be able to tell
    a) that I'm doing this or
    B) what I'm watching
by looking at internet history or whatever?

(by the way, no I'm not watching porn, I'm watching Shameless, but even that is a bit risque is suppose - I'd be scarle'!)

    thanks for any help.

Most places will record all internet activity, all sites you visited, date/time....

Depends how tech-savvy your bosses are. The fact that you are watching video content would be fairly easy to spot. Specifically what you're watching could also be discovered but would take a little more work, and a little more tech knowledge.

Rather than open up the internet browser in work and download / stream the video, you might be better off downloading it at home and then saving it onto a memory stick etc. This can still be spotted but I'd imagine that it would be unlikely. Also, as you wouldn't be putting any pressure on the company internet connection, I doubt they'd be massively bothered even if they did spot it.

Well seeing as you'd be downloading quite a lot of data watching TV shows, then yes they might notice for that reason - but it depends on your job, they might not if your work involves frequently accessing the net and files. Would just download at home and watch at work on a simple media player from your usb.

I would think it has a lot to do with whether you have an IT guy on site or not. Like was mentioned above, audio/video are large and will attract attention but only if somebody is looking for it (i.e. tracking usage on the broadband). Depending on the bandwidth of your broadband line, It is likely that you watching steaming TV would be slowing down other Internet applications for other users.

The temporary internet files on the PC will have all of the information about the sites that you went to but this is easy to remove, especially with the newer versions of the browsers.

That is of course side stepping the moral issue that you are meant to be working ;-)

Stop it now if you don't want to get caught out, the bandwidth on their internet connection will be alot less with you watching streaming vids, they will eventually pull you up on it. Even a completetly clueless admin will spot this.
