    Hi Gang

Got out of hosp on Monday but took me to today to get to post here. Breastfeeding a baby is a full time job and as I keep getting dragged into work stuff too. Outrageous I know but it's my livlihood and I can't help it. Have restriceted myself to email only and no answering phones. Did I mention I run a guesthouse. Anyhoo!

I feel fantastic - elective section is best thing ever. Not even taking paracetomal now and she's just a week old today. How cute is she! I have red hair so it's crazy looking at my little brunette. 7lb 7oz born at 12.15 pm last thursday the 5th Feb.

Wofpawn - you have nothing to worry about in terms of giving birth or recovery but the staff in the rotunda were brutal to me. Wouldn't help me with latching even after 6 hrs. Luckily I had read and brought a really good breastfeeding book with me as they would not come near me. Thought I was wearing a cloak of invisibilty and that was for the whole 4 days. I ran out of the place. Bring all your baby books - I had" what to expect the first year" and "best feeding" and just got on with it. Take the painkillers ( oxy something morphinme tabs every 4hrs) and scream if they're denied to you as there is no reason to feel pain. Stupid cow left me waiting 2 hrs afer they were due and after that I snapped and demanded to see the matron. Gave her an earful about how they were ruining the experience for me. My husband couldn't believe it as he puts faith in professionals and thinks I should learn to listen to them and trust them. poppycock :D He doesn't think that now

Will write the whole birth story and aftermath over the next few days. Am over the moon and in love with my gorgous girl. She let me sleep for two 3 hour stretches last night and breastfeeding is going really well.

You have a beauty there. sounds like you know what you are doing and are having a great time. Enjoy every minute of it. My kids are grown up now and I wouldn't swap but still feel slightly envious.

Oh my god she is only GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!! The scratch mits are so cute.

I am terrrfied, they were lovely in the antenatal clinic so I was hoping for them to be as nice up stairs, but we will have to wait and see.

    Hiya Grawns!!

She's gorgeous!! Congratulations hun, you're doing brilliant!!

It's funny... I had a totally different experience to yourself... well the second night was a bit hard but other than that I couldn't praise the midwives more. On my last night in hospital one of them even stayed up with me all night trying to help Addison to latch on, and when that didn't work, she fed her while I expressed!

They did leave me waiting for pain killers though... my little sister (she's 19!) was up visiting me one of the days and they left me waiting 2 hours and she nearly ate the head off them!!

Thanks everyone. Scratch mitts are essential ( I can't face cutting or biting her nails yet) and she is like a baby houdini, she got her 2 hosp tags and security tag off.

Honestly wolfpawn - the section is nothing to worry about, just be demanding and don't expect them to ask you if you need any help, medication, information etc. Some of the nurses were really nice but sure you never saw them again and they were all very busy. Don't let your partner out of your sight as he can help a lot.

I can't begin to describe what a liberation the birth has been, there's no stitches to be removed ( they're all absorbable) and I can touch my toes and don't have to get up 5 times a night to go to the loo ( just to breastfeed :)!!!! ) It's totally normal to be apprehensive and I can only hope that my expereince of the section helps.

If you're not planning on breastfeeding the whole thing will be easier but I do recommend it, just be careful with the latch.

I am so glad you are getting on well Grawns, I am on the verge of labour here, backache and menstrual type cramps. I rang the hospital and they said if they become regular get my butt in! My family are after booking the hotel for the weekend up here! I havent told my OH so he's in for a shock when he comes home:) Is breast feeding difficult? I have every intention of doing it:)

Thanks adrienne - my mum wondered if my treatment was down to the elective section ( appearently most midwives not a fan as it threatens their profession). However i doubt this as they are professionals and there weren't many midwives around in fact, mostly nurses. The other thing was maybe they thought it wasn't my first baby as I'm older. Maybe I was just unlucky and they were understaffed or something. There was a litany of stuff. I had to ask for help to get out of bed mself on my insistance on the first day as everyone says that getting up after the spinal block wears off really speeds up your recovery. They forgot to take out my catheter after 24 hrs, which again delays recovery. I reminded the matron that it had been 28 hrs and nobody had come near me. She was morto :o

Will cover the whole saga in my birth story ( no bed, seperation for 21/2hrs cause of no bed, waiting another 4 hrs for someone to help with breastfeeding,( help never came) no medical checks, sleepy baby, jaundice, expressing - crazy nurse badly bruised my boob and the hormonal meltdown when your milk comes in) but if I hadn't been so informed as to best treatment post op, maybe I wouldn't have felt so let down by the lack of basic care. Or maybe I'm a big moan :(

Myself and my husband are thrilled with our healthy daughter and that's the main thing ( but I hate seeing the system fail as it could hurt others in the future)

    Here's another pic

 You could be on your way and if so you'll have your baby so soon. I hope you have a real easy time like me. I was chatting away to the surgeons while they stitched me up. :D

Bring a book that has chapters covering breastfeeding and put the baby to your breast as quickly as possible and as often as you can. I'm finding it super easy but lots of people fail at it for many reasons such as they have the latch wrong and the baby hurts their nipples mkaing feeding painful. If it hurts after more than a few seconds , break the latch by putting your finger in the babies mouth and reposition. If you don't have a good book, Chapters on parnell street have a great maternity section so send your oh. bridget is a good feeder though so i'm lucky in that too.

    you'll be grand:D
