    A ban from competing in Italy would prevent Valverde from riding the 2009 Tour de France, because the Tour passes into Italian territory during Stage 16 through Val d'Aoste.

    The Tour passed through Italy last year, so the Italian authorities sampled him there. They also have access to the Puerto bloog bags, which means they can do a match. Why they've taken so long is anyone's guess.

    plus their golden boy (Basso) had to do 2 years while the Spanish equivalent was protected by their cycling union and got off scot free (so far)
