Hi all. I've been doing numerous charity cycles for over 12 years and want to upgrade my bike very soon before taking on the Ring of Kerry.

Thing is, the bike i'm currently using is a Raleigh racing bike which was actually my brothers which i inherited (he used it twice). Now, i'm not sure if he was measured up before buying the bike, but he is quite a bit taller than me, he's 6' 3 and i'm only 5' 10".

I always feel that i'm leaning forward far too much on the bike and end up with a terrible pain in my neck after a lengthy cycle. I'm thinking this is because the frame may be too big for me.

What size frame should i be looking at buying seeing as i'm 5' 10" in height?
Also, do any of you have any recommendations as to what model bike would be best? I've been looking at Trek, BH, Giant, BEOne, Specialized but haven't taken the plunge on any as of yet. Really would like to pick something up 2nd hand.

At a guess, 56-58cm, but between the inconsistency in the way different manufacturers measure this and the increasing prevalence of compact frames, that can only be ballpark. I would suggest going into a decent bike shop and seeing what they would recommend.

Larger frames can be more comfortable, as you have less of a saddle-handlebar drop.

So it might be worth considering a shorter stem as a cheap fix, if your current stem is long.

Generally a 56cm frame would be about right for a 5'10" rider.

Thanks guys. I'll call in to a Bike shop and ask their expert advice and hopefully we'll sort something out.
