They generally start registration in early March so you could sign up for the 2011 MsD. You know you want to;)

I done that twice and would really recommend it. You spent your time there in a refugee camps. Its not as bad as it sounds, your stay with a family who really look after you. They cook for you everyday the organisers supply the with food for the runners. Its inspirational to see how these people I hope to get back there next year.

Cheers. There is still plently of time to go for it. I dreamed of doing the MdS since I first heard about [and lets remember I have'nt done it yet] and when I look back on it most you could saying that my running have been tests to see if I could do it. Finishing a my first marathon, going for my first 100k, testing the desert out by doing the Sahara Marathon. It was about developing enough belief in myself to sign up for. Plus the point that its quite an exspensive event.

Plus once I got my first taste of the desert I was hooked. Its such a lovely place, the was a couple of time during the Sahara marathon that I was completly alone. Anywhere you looked it was just sand a great experience.

Very difficult to get an entry. The race fills up in 5 minutes.
Two years ago, nine of us logged on at 9am when the entries opened. Only 4 were lucky. The race was full at 9.05.
If you are really into these events, have a look at Racing the Planet website. No problem getting an entry. The organisers are very professional and runner friendly, and they speak English. A few from our training group will be signing up for the Atacama Crossing next year. Similar format to the MdS. It's a 6 stage race, averaging a marathon a day for 6 days.
Best of luck to the gang doing this years MdS. It's an experience you will never forget.

Cheers for that, I just had quick look at their website. Some interesting stuff there. Yeah I know I was sitting in front of a computer at the same time, as you said it was just luck that I managed to get in.

Yeah I have seen that pic before. There is a part of me looking to encountering these yokes over. I read a bit about them and there seems to be quite a few myths about them. If I remember correctly the are known to chase runners seeking the shade that your shadow offers:eek: Also they can run at about 10k p/h. Try out running that with a backpack on.
