I will be building a garage over the coming summer. It will be built in an area where the surrounding ground will be 4-5ft higher than the base (watertable about 1ft above base). I plan to backfill the soil up to the external walls. What would be a suitable way to waterproof the external wall's?

Its not just the walls that will need to be w/p but the entire floor: im my opinion not the way to go for a garage
as u also have to design the walls for 5 feet of clay.

In passing: how will u access it?

Expensive option is to tank the garage walls, cheaper option is to build a retaining wall about 1-1.5m back from the garage, put in a drainage channel all around and then build a conventional garage. Raise the floor of the garage min 150mm above the surrounding footpath/ground
