    So

...where did you get them and what did they cost? I dunno if this deserves a new thread or not - will leave this to admin [maybe link it to the existing thread on DTT TVs] but I've been in Harvey Normans, phoned both DID and Power City and it seems that Irish retailers aren't really stocking these at the mo....

So, if you have one, and bought it in Ireland or online, how much and where - and how happy or otherwise are you with it?

Thanks! Possibly would've bought one over the weekend but I only had a choice of two so decided to leave it and do more research....

Purchased my Sony 40W4000 at 1stAudiovisual.co.uk last June - very good price but shipping can be > 100eur. Still good value.

Also check out richersounds.co.uk and pixmania.ie (look out for TNT HD)

Yeah - I think that's the Sony that DID stock (the guy thought it was about 1300 but didn't bother checking!). Richer Sounds have a list of tellys in this very forum here:

I've posted in there just to check that they're are / are not MPEG-4 ready....

Just from reading your last post is it safe to say that any tv with the TNT HD logo will absolutely work with the MPEG-4 system that will be used in Ireland?

I don't think there can be any absolutes until Irish DTT is officially launched. But the specs do match.

TNT HD = MPEG4. It may or may not have MHEG5 for digital teletext but EPG and DVB Subtitles will work 99% of the time.

Was in there earlier - it's listed as having a free hard disc recorded (160GB) but I asked the guy could they swap that for a blu ray player and he said yes.

Posted here as I thought it might be of interest. 1099 euro for the tv and player seems like a great deal to me!

Not a bad price at all. I recommend that tv highly.

Thats a very good deal for a shop alright. I imagine the HD recorder would be over 200e on its own so the tv would be really only about 900e which is about what it'd cost from the UK at the moment.

wouldn't it be great if irish retailers could label their tv's 'mpeg4 ready'

But i don't reckon they will do anything until august when boxer are due to start
    (if they start at all)

If boxer don't start, i shudder to think what will happen to the irish dtt programme

Folks,I'm probably a bit cranky after listening to the usual filling of doom and gloom on the radio while travelling to work, but I and I am sure thousands of other people don't give a toss if Boxer ever launch a service, the irish channels are freely available in perfect clarity as they are and can be viewed on as many tvs as you want within your house ,without extra expense. There will be eruptions when all these changes come to pass!!

Wouldn't it be better if there was a ban on the sale on tv's not capable of decoding mpeg4. Most people wouldn't have a clue about what mpeg4 is.

Not where I live. With analogue you cannot get TV3 unless you use an external aerial and booster. Using DTT however everything comes through.

SAme here, no TV3 where I am unless a different aerial is put up. DTT will also give possibilities for RTE to expand some services when money comes available after recession goes away!

Where i live, you cant get anything without an outdoor aerial and a booster

The same goes for many many more people up and down this country

I am amazed that so many people have put up with such a poor TV reception for so many years then! Surely having to pay an annual, extortionate TV licence fee should have mobilised people to have complained about the reception many years ago!

The license is for having a television tuner, not fantastic reception of RTÉ.
