As you have no preference yet for a particular brand yet, i would just go and buy a set of size 9's in whatever brands they have available. Size 9 being about middle of the road..

Once you have used them, you could then decide if you want to move down to a lighter 8's gauge or a heavier 10 or 11 gauge.

It probably had 10s on it, so I would replace it with the same. 9s would be light for 335-type guitar. If you're looking for clearer and louder chords, you might think about 11s or 12s.

Depending on whether the intonation and action are set right to begin with, changing gauge will throw it a little - so you might consider dropping it in to a shop for a setup if you're going that way.

If you put thicker or thinner strings on your guitar than are on there already you may find that the guitar will need some slight adjustment. If you prefer to avoid that bring the guitar along to a music shop and ask them to get you the same guage strings that are on it already.
EDIT: Just saw Eoins post
D'Adarrio seem to be the most widely available brand and they are fine.

When you put the strings on follow the method in this link and they will stay in tune better:

I wouldn't put anything less than 10's on a semi but that's me.
If you want to know what strings are on the axe you could use a venier to check the high e string. Put the vernier to measure inches. Eg If you read back .011 inches then you have 11's on your guitar. :)

I only use 8's :) So 10's was a bit too heavy for me to recommend :P

Whatever you're comfortable with i suppose. I don't subscribe to the "thicker the string the better the tone" gang but with 8's i'd be out of tune all the time. :)
