Steering Problem

I hit a kerb the otherday in the ice, and smashed a part of my steering up, i had it fixed, the tie rod end went and buckled my wheel.
Well i had all this sorted and then a funny scrapy noise was coming from the steering wheel, and i noticed today the steering is weird, if i turn the wheel left full lock, then watch the wheels come back to the centre, the steering wheel is like if you would turn left, the same if you turn it full lock right, but now and then it goes back to normal.. Hard to explain.

    Any ideas?

Hard to tell from your description ...but doesn't sound good.

I'd get it investigated as a matter of urgency. Could be harmless like everything just being a bit stiff and not fully resetting to straight ahead ...but there could also be damage to your steering gearbox which could fail catastrophically at the worst moment possible.

Agreed with the above poster. Not sure what the problem is, but get it looked at asap. Last thing you want is for your steering to fail!

    very hard 2 describe.

the scrapy noise has gone now.

The amount of different positions ive had the steering in, with the wheels being straight is beyond.

    cheers guys.

So your steering wheel points every which way (and a different way every time) when you're driving straight ?

Get that fixed man, pronto !!

not fixed very well by the sounds of it, why don't you bring it back to the garage?

I took it to a garage earlier, hes going to have a proper look tomorrow, but from my description, he seems to think, ive snapped some of the teeth on the steering cog

that would be my first guess - id be very cautious about driving it - might be a good idea to get it towed to the garage. yer probably going to have to get a new steering rack. what car is it ?
