Saw a half page ad in the Irish Times last week listing certain Dunnes Stores that no longer sell the Irish Times.

It also listed news agents near those branches that were now stocking more copies of the paper instead.

Anyone any idea what's going on?

They're not selling the Guardian/Observer either, something about a dispute over commercial terms.

Some Spare stores were boycotting the Sindo recently as well because INM cut the margin retailers get on the cover price. Not sure if the two cases are related though.

There seems to be problems with the Irish Indo is shops in Limerick also. A lotof shops don't have the Indo on display, you have to ask the person at the till for it. It was no where to be bought this morning in Limerick

They are two separate issues, i believe that dunnes want to pay the times based on the number of copies that are scanned through their tills, thus bypassing the normal invoice, return method. the times wont agree to it and have being left out of a number of dunnes shops.

the issue with the indo is that they have reduced the margin paid to the retailer or in effect they have increased the cost price but left the sales price the same.

what the shops are afraid of , is if the indo get away with this then all the newpapers will do it and erode the retailers margin, aot of your smaller shops/newagents are finding it hard enough without being screwed by the big multinationals.
