    Folks,
Anyone doing this http://www.cupidsdash.ie/ on Sat.I'll give it a go as it is the AWARE course and i am still trying to break 50 mins (ice ruined the aware attempt!). You can collect your number on race day also in the park.

yep just signed up for it two minutes ago. Trying to go sub 40 but if its icy like it was at the aware 10k I may forget about it.

Got the following email from them earlier, has some useful info...

    Hi Everyone,
Thank you for entering the Cupid's Dash!
We have had a couple of delays with the chip system and so race packs will only be available for collection in the Phoenix Park at the Papal Cross car park from 8am to 9.45am on race morning. This will include your goody bag, t-shirt, timing chip and race number.
Please get there in time to collect your numbers. Packet collection will end promptly at 9.45am and if 100 people arrive at 9.44am this will be difficult. The race will start at 10am exactly and cannot be delayed for people trying to collect their numbers. The race start is roughly a 5 minute walk from the registration area.
There is a possibility that we will have race day registration but entry numbers are increasing rapidly and we may have to cut off entry before Saturday in which case race entry won't be available so if you haven't entered yet we would advise you to do so online.
Toilets will be available at the registration area in the Papal Cross Car Park.
The after party venue has changed to Kobra Bar on Lower Mount Street and you can download your tickets online here:

    http://www.cupidsdash.ie/raceinfo.html

You will need your ticket to get free entry into the bar and night club later on.
The Awards Ceremony will now be held at 3pm at Sophia Housing -
    25 Cork St., Dublin 8.

We hope to see plenty of red and pink in the crowd and fancy dress is more than welcome!
We hope you all have a great day.
To keep up to date on all race information please keep checking this web page:

Alternatively if you have any questions feel free to e-mail us:

I need to focus more on training , raced a bit too much last year, so the next 2 months i'll only do 2 Bhaa races and a half marathon.

But nearly signed up for that 10k...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭Woddle

I want to try and get a 22 miler in on the Sunday so will also give this a miss. But I will be there with my camera and if it's the same route as the aware 10k you will see me on your left at the 3k mark and I'll be at the finish. So don't forget to smile. :D

Looks to be about the same route as the Aware race:

They have a "Love Station" instead of water about half way round by the looks of it.

Nice one woddle - I'm racing it so I was hoping there'd be someone out and about with a camera. Your mission is to get a shot of me... Robinph got a blurry shot of me at my last race, so there's still none of me on my site.

I plan on rebelling and not even wearing red!

Don't worry SP my camera work is far superior to that of robinph :p

What I did at the aware 10k was to stand at the 3k mark for the first 20 mins and then headed over to the finish and by 3 k the guys at the front tend to be starting to break into single file, so should get some good shots and I got the lads on the photography forum to critique my aware shots, so I have a few new tips.

I registered for it months ago, but would rather get a quality LSR in this weekend so may not do it. If I do, I won't be racing it...and won't be wearing my Leeds jersey as Woddle and his camera scare me.

That sounds like you've been cheating Woddle if your asking for tips from the photography forum. Next race we're both not doing we will have to have a camera competition to see who can get the best pictures. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 399 ✭✭estariol

Ran the course on saturday morning, distance on the came up about 600m short based on the course map on my forerunner. Was aiming for 45mins (well within my normal 10k time) but struggled round in 55mins with the ice, if next saturday morning is anything like last weekend its gonna be a slow one.

Not registered yet but I would like to take around 90 seconds off of my Aware 10K time. If it's going to be an ice rink again then I may not take part.

Weather sounds ok for tomorrow, no ice anyway:

Tomorrow will be dry in many areas but there will still be patches of drizzly rain around and this will become more widespread in Connacht and Ulster as the day progresses. Top temperatures will range from 7 to 10 degrees.

I signed up there. EDIT: There is no sign up tomorrow for this....incase you didn't read the full race details.
Here's hoping my picture is taken....I'll be one of the few without red or pink clothes ;)

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

Well I'm certainly not going to be wearing pink, might go for a cheerful black number but that all depends on what comes out of the washing machine today.

On you maybe, I don't think the world is ready for robinph in a pink mini. Although if he changes his mind, I hope Woddle manages to get photographic evidence.

Well an outfit like that may give me the bit more spring in my step in an attempt to try and outrun Woddle and his camera.

It's not going to happen though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭Woddle

I'll be there a 100% tomorrow with the camera. A bit of advice if you want to increase your chances of being in a picture, as you come off Chesterfield avenue and on to Ordance survey road, hug your left handside of the road and if you shout woddle or sth I'll be sure to snap you, if you don't want to shout, try smiling and sucking in the belly and I'll assume that means take me take me :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72 ✭✭limerickleader

Looking forward to this one and having a crack at a sub 36" time. Just had a gander at the website and there looks like approx 500 people already registered. As mentioned above, the weather looks like being spot on. Sure, what else would you be doing on a Saturday morning?

Fair play to Woddle for taking the snaps. Will keep an eye out for you at that spot and will endeavour to put on my "I'm really enjoying myself even though my lungs feel like they are about to come up through my throat, my legs are burning and I want to cry" face.

I'm going to go out on a limb and admit that I'm aiming for sub 40 tomorrow. I don't think I've run that way round the hills in the park before so hopefully it turns out to be the faster way of negotiating them.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

I'm aiming to finish in one piece tomorrow...haven't done any sort of speed work whatsoever in months because of ultra training so tomorrow should be errr...interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭emerald007

It will be interesting to compare how much of an effect the ice on the day of the Aware race had on times. I'm thinking (hoping) that I should be able to take +30seconds on the time from early jan at tomorrows race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,863 ✭✭✭hawkwing

i'm hoping to knock 1'55" off my aware time as i ran it all on the grass and stopped twice also cos of the ice.no excuses for me tomorrow, sub 50 or i may well pack it all in.539 registered so there is a chance of beating my 250th place terenure record placement!!:p

I've no idea what time I may have done for a 10k years ago as my memory isn't quite what it used to be, but my best time since I've been running again was a 45:04 on a very hot day last summer so I do hope to knock a good chunk of time off that one.

I did the aware in 44.4? so hoping to get around in less than 43.30 tomorrow as have done a decent bit of training since December. Not much speedwork though..

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

I did the aware run painfully slow, suffered the whole way through. Not holding high hopes for tomorrow either...a sub 50 would be rubbish compared to what I CAN do...but I think I'd settle for it. :pac:

On a side note, anyone going to the party? Can't see many people turning up to that on valentines night.

What happened, its sounds like you DNFed. If that's the case don't focus on it too much we all have bad days out at some time, you just dust yourself down and get cracking again when you ready.

    48:58!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!oh YES:):):):)
Finally broke the 50mins which was a major goal for the year.Got to the 1K at 0602 and thought the game was up again,i'm always a horrendous starter but this was worrying as i thought i had pushed it a bit. splits were :
602/510/500/430/451/430/508/427/504/407----again as usual i was 2540/2318 for the 5ks and negative.1k marker had to be way off and a couple agreed with me.Conditions perfect even though i felt it a bit slippy.saw a gent at the 3k marker with a camera who better have got me with my thumbs up!!t-shirt is not me but i like the medal and am over the moon with the time, not sure of the start mat so i may be a few secs slower. This has encouraged me greatly to keep at it after a few recent dissapointments.:)Think i saw and passed mp1972 about 3-4k in,also standing up on the bank on the right-hand side of the road 10mins before the start all in black with a cap??

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Thanks guys. Jacked it in at 6k and walked to the finish line to watch people come in. Never given up like that before, not like me at all, but we all have those days.

Did meet Robin after he came in, I know there were a few more boardsies about but I was too pissed off to introduce myself. :D

Edit: and bloody woddle hiding BEHIND the 3k marker, it was too late to pull my hat over my face by the time I saw him.

39:50 according to my watch. :D:D:D:D

Thought I was going to miss the 40 mins as had based my pace on the assumption that 10k=6miles, but hadn't actually allowed for the extra bit and only realised my error at half way. But come the very last 100meters when I could see the clock over the finish line and it still appeared to be reading 39:?? much to my surprise so I found an extra bit of speed just to make sure.

Woddle was being very sneaky trying to hide behind the 3km marker when I went past, butI heard a couple of lads talking about someone from the 'tinterweb being out taking pictures when I was hanging around at the start. :D

44.15. Pretty disappointed with the time but felt like I ran a good steady race. Bit surprised that I didn't smash my aware time from December (44.4x) as have been doing a lot of running since Christmas compared to last year. Enjoyable morning's running though...

Fairplay to robinph and drquirky, those were great times. I'd love to go sub 40mins some day!

Hawkwing - that's some improvement, well done..

I finished in almost the exact same time, and as I crossed the line I did overhear someone saying something like "well done Robin, you're well inside", so I'll presume that was your good self!

First time I've gone sub 40, so well pleased. The km markers didn't seem to be the most accurate, I was at 1.15km according to the forerunner when I passed the first one. Thought I was gonna blow up at 8km but fortunately managed to plough on. I was fairly goosed by the end of it though!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,983 ✭✭✭TheRoadRunner

Well done lads. Some great runs and PBs there. Anybody who ran a PB or close to one should be doubly delighted as I think that 10K course is quite tough. It's a real test (any race in the phoenix park is) and there is definitely the potential to run even quicker on a faster course.

Well done also to two boardies for their first and second finishes
