Didnt hear anything about this movie, but got it out from the dvd store last week based on the cover. Anyway, I would really recommend it. Its about a martial arts instructor, but its not about fighting, in fact there is very little fighting in it. Its more of a moral tale about honour and integrity.

Has the excellent Chiwetel Ejiofor, and is written by David Mamet.

Seen a trailer for this ages ago. I was wondering when it would be out on DVD. It had a short run in the cinemas. Will have to take a look at this soon.

I agree, its more about what goes on in the instructors personal life than an actual fighting flick.

Its not bad, may appeal more to people who train/fight in a martial discipline. Just dont expect a fists flying/epic battle sort of film.

Its worth watching though just to see a film about a MA told from antother perspective.

YEP, SAW THIS ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO...............i kinda knew what i was in for before i saw it too as i read an article years ago on 'REDBELTS'..........it was never going to be a meatheads dream of kicking the pulp out of various unlikeable characters dished up with a hollywood gravy. From what i have read it seems a redbelt is held by a grandmaster of a martial arts format. The overwhelming theme of a redbelt is reaching personal and moral goals in the art and not merely about kicking 7 shades out of your opponent.........i thought it was a fantastic movie for its message and the acting gets up close and personal on more levels than i was expecting.......it was a nice surprise but it is defo not an action flick..........if i was a young boy/girl setting out on the road of a martial art i would rather see this kind of movie than something like the karate kid..........thoroughly enjoyed it to be honest.
