Hi. I am travelling to Peru in march. someone mentioned that I may need to get a vaccination for yellow fever because the plane stops over in Brasil for a couple of hours. Is this true? I can't find any info on this.

Yeah I think you do. I had a lot of hassle at one of the border points, Bolivia to Peru or Peru to Brazil not sure which, anyways I actually hadn't got the yellow fever injection so I hid my medical card and said I lost it.

Ended up being brought to some military police station and had to wait around to get some documents signed saying it was okay for me to travel, was lucky they believed me but it was still a nuisance not having it.

Yeah, I would def recommend getting any vaccination you can for those areas. You have to show security when you enter the country a slip that proves you are vaccinated. I cant exactly remember but I assume the doc gives it to you.

Peru is an incredible place. Enjoy!

Peru is incredible. I would heavily recommend altitude sickness pills. I assume you are going to cusco and maccu piccu? Cusco is extremely high above sea level and takes some adapting. The pills are available in any shop, it makes adapting far easier.

Hike the Colca Canyon near Arequipa.

Oh, if you are going to maccu piccu. Dont take the bus. The walk/hike is a million times better and the bus journey is terrifying

There is no bus from Cusco to Machu Picchu, it's a train up to Aguas Calientes and then a bus from there to Machu Picchu.

The bus is quite terrifying as it snakes around the edge of the mountain but personally I didn't want to hike up after 4 days of hiking already. Plus I didn't fancy hiking up in the dark as we were trying to get up to Machu Picchu before the sun rose.

With regard to the altitude pills, we didn't bother with them... I'd recommend getting a flight rather than a bus from Lima to Cusco if that's the direction you're going. The bus slowly climbs up the mountain and takes a long time, thus not being the best for altitude sickness.

Outside of the whole MP thing, try to get to Huacachina and do some sandboarding. I preferred that to the pile of bricks on the mountain!
