You'll pick up a set of turntables relatively cheap. There's a number of brands which are recommended; Kam, Technics, Vestax, Soundlab etc. There's a few things u need to look out for when buying them. You need to make sure they have cartridges (These are units that attach onto the arm and hold the needle). A lot of turntables can be sold without these, as the DJS tend to hold onto theirs. These can be expensive to buy after shelling out for a set of turntables. If ur gonna be getting into tutntablism (sca=ratching, chopping, tricks etc) you'll need Direct Drive decks rather than belt drives. These are more expensive but are pretty much essential if you're serious about it. You'll also need a scratch mixer, but the shop can recommend you a good one. I would advise checking the buy and sell magazine for 2nd hand decks, u can get a bargain. Just try them out and make sure thay haven't been abused. Technice 1210's are industry standard, but don't start with them to learn as they are about 600-800 each. You'll also need an amp, and a set of speakers. U can usually source used ones out in places that rent DJ gear. they sell ex-rental ones at good prices. In cork there'a a shop called Cash Converters as well that sells used electronics, where u can also pick these up relatively cheaply. but I assume you're in Dublin. All the popular hip-hop can be picked up on vinyl in HMV and Virgin, and the underground/non mainstream stuff in places like Comet records, or Plugd. U also need to start digging around in obscure places to find rare records at cheap prices. Second hand music shops (Cash Converters, Vibes and Scribes in Cork), Charity shops are very goo, and car boot sales can all be gold mines for finding gems that you simply cannot get. There's a GREAT book I got when I was starting out, I can't recommend this highly enough. It takes in everything, from sourcing equipment, to buying records, to beat matching, to scratching, to getting gigs and playing out. It is excellent, here's the link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-DJ-properly-Science-Playing/dp/0593058119/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234139749&sr=1-1

Enjoy it, and any Q's mail me fella :)
