Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham in "Prince of Thieves".

Ok, it's not my favourite, (that'd have to be Darth Sidious), but it's it's a great character well portrayed.

A few that made an impression for different reasons

    Open Wide!

Michael Caine was brilliant in Mona Lisa as Cathy Tysons pimp. Real nasty piece of work,
Robert Mitchum in a few notably The Night of the Hunter seeking out two young children.

I'm assuming that you are referring to Brian Cox's chilling portrayal of the character and not Hopkins overtly cartoonish version.

I don't mind admitting I was impressed by Hannibal Lecter from Hannibal. I like the idea of a villain with such a sense of history and aesthetics. The way he executed Pazzi, in Florence...

    Also:
    - Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) - The Matrix
    - Stansfield (Gary Oldman) - Léon
    - Harry Lime (Orson Welles) - The Third Man
    and my all-time favourite:
    - HAL 9000 - 2001: A Space Odyssey.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I love the intensity of his final scene, the polish soldiers kicking the stool, Goth remaining defiant & unrepentant...

Ye i always liked that scene, or anyhting simmilar to it, i like the idea of people staying true to there ideals (regardless of what they are) in the face of death

Really i thought the other villain was much better. Ben Foster.310ToYuma-BF-med.jpg

In fact he was an excellent 'bad guy' in Alpha Male, his lack was sexy out too imo

    all great hard to choose!

they're not villains in my opinion. To have a villain you need a hero, who's the hero in Downfall, and Tyler Durden isn't a villain per se but rather a mixture of a lot of things.

I think Nurse Mildred Ratched is the worst villain ever portrayed on screen.

My favourite villain hands down is joker. I loved jack nicholson's portrayol of him but Heath Ledger's acting was astounding. He couldn't possibly have played the part any better. Absolutely superb!!!

Some good 'uns (Stansfield, Hans Gruber, Commodus) mentioned above.

    Other memorable ones for me:

    - General Chang, played with aplomb by Christopher Plummer. Gotta love all that Shakespeare.
    - Richter (Michael Ironside) from Total Recall
    - Vincent Cassell's de Morangias in Brotherhood of the Wolf
    - The Kurgan in Highlander. Badass.

Just though of another - Nurse Annie Wilkes from Misery. Dont know if you'd class her as a villian as such though.

She's a great evil charachter all the same though, pure psychopath.

Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction - total nutter
Gary Oldman in Dracula - actually kind of felt sorry for him in the end...
Jack Nicholson in the Shining - many shades of crazy...

Gotta mention the best comedy villain too -
Kim Jong Il in Team America world police

And in a nod to my buddies in the noc forum - Megatron from Transformers!!!
