Down to 99 euro excluding delivery on pixmania, not too shabby, was 125 all last week.... Decent drive or not?

I have the 500 Meg version of this and it is fine. Paid big money a couple of years back. My advice to anyone looking for a hard drive is wait until the last minute because they are going down in price all the time.

The WD elements is €95 on Komplett but the mybook essential is €109 there excluding delivery

Is there any difference between the WD Elements & the WD My Book?

I have got both running at home right beside one another.
In relation to functionality, I see no difference between them.

The mybook is a little quieter than the elements.

Also the mybook looks sturdier in appearance and more stylish.

If you are going to be carrying around bringing it places would go for the mybook. If its just going to sit in a corner somewhere anonymous then go for the elements, there is very little in it though when using both in my opinion

I think all you are paying extra for is the fancier design.

    B~

The Mybook shuts down when your pc shuts down, it also has a 10 minute (I think) idle-to-sleep timer

If you plan on leaving it plugged into a pc a lot while not being used then I would recommend it.

I have the elements 500gb which I leave plugged into my xbox 360. It only turns itself on when the console is on, and turns itself off when the console is off. There's no on/off button.

I'm looking into ordering an external HD over the next few days. Was looking at the WD MyPassport 500GB (to possibly tie in with WD's HD Media Player).

What is the difference between the MyBook and the Passport. I see that the rpm is slower on the Passport, yet it is a tidier design. Yet 30 quid dearer. Anyone with details of the difference?

As far as I know, the MyBook is powered by plugging into the wall, the Passport is powered by USB (no need for a power supply).

Never knew that about the Elements one, that is the seller for me when buying an external these days.
Cheers, they are usually a few quid cheaper than the MyBooks.

I bought one of these 1TB Mybook external drives last year. I was so pleased with it that I bought a second one later as I had a lot of personal stuff on the first one such as photos & music, that I'd hate to lose. They are powered by a mains lead and seem to power down when my computer is switched off. I can recommend them.

i bought the 500gb one off pixmania there a few weeks ago for €81 delivered. is a great drive but as said before if u can get the elements cheaper u could just go for that. Think the my book just looks shinier.

Lacie 2GB (€182.90 delivered) or WD Digital Elements 1GB (€107.50 delivered)? The Lacie is slightly better value but I don't know much about them as drives.
