    Mods, please move if in the wrong section, but i thought this leaned more towards satellite...

    my dad has a sony bravia kdl-40d3500 1080p hd tv with built in freeview tuner. he also has an SD sky box, with no future plans to upgrade to sky hd.

    is there any way to split the sky signal to both the tv and the box before it reaches the box? i'm thinking he could check out any FTA HD channels if any exist and not have to switch cables all the time.

    is this even possible?

    I don't think this is possible. You could possibly replace the LNB (the thing the wires come from on the dish) with one which has more outputs, but I don't think you can split existing ones.

    you cant split it.
    run another cable to the box, (you may need to get a Quad lnb)

    the only hd channels free are bbchd and luxehd.
    Itvhd is available on freesat via red button.(sometimes)

    actually now that i remember, when he was getting sky in i told him to get a quad or dual lnb in if he ever wanted + or multiroom later, so he could do it that way. thanks!

    Freeview = UK DTT, not satellite at all.

    Freesat = Satellite.

    No, you can't split satellite cables, but can split Aerial and Cable signals.

    so he cant run a cable from the dish direct to his tv and tune in digital channels, and/or free hd channels?

    Just a quick minor correction.....
    BBC HD, Luxe HD and ITV HD are all available FTA on satellite. I think the OP was getting freeview and freesat confused. He is right in saying that ITV HD is only sometimes available.

    No. Different transmission systems (DVB-T vs DVB-S) and frequencies (470-860 MHz vs 950-2150 MHz).
