Ive been looking around for a good commercial 4x4 for less then 1500, there seems to be a nice amount of 3.1 Isuzu troopers going cheap but why so cheap?

The 3.1 is a good machine. Its the 3.0 litre ya wanna stay away from. The main thing with buying an older trooper is to check for rust on the chassis. They are a good solid jeep and should serve you well provided you pick up a decent one.

Why so cheap? Prob cause jeeps arent selling and prices have dropped greatly. Or maybe they are complete traps!!

3.1 is a good machine. The long wheel base is alot more comfortable than the short wheel base. There are a good tought jeep but not as refined as others e.g. landcruiser. You should get good VFM with a trooper.

Aha! I was getting wires crossed will stay away from 3.0 so then.
Im not to concerned about comfort, but are they any good off road?
I'd probably be using it for towing mostly but Ive always wanted to give some trialing a shot!
    thanks

There ok but depends on what type of terrain your on and what kind of tyres you use. They wouldnt be great in serious dodgy terrain due to low ground clearance and such. They are great for pullin trailers though.

Troopers are good for pulling heavy loads and are good off road to a certain extent but are quiet heavy and as said previously have low ground clearance so would not be good for trailing.
The best jeep for off road 'trailing' is the JIMNY. Very light small jeep. There only have a 1.3 petrol engine so they wouldn't pull a dog trailer and I wouldn't like to be travelling to far on the road but they are unbeatable off-road.
