    Hi,

I recently started working for a company who are based in the UK, the job itself is in Ireland. Now I don't have a national insurance number so can't be taxed on the UK tax system. I spoke to the accountant in the job and he told me I will have to sort out my own tax in Ireland, even though they took a copy of my p45. Can anyone explain the proceedure on how I would go about this and how often? Also do you guys in this line of business charge alot for this kind of service? Thanks for any advise offered its greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
It strikes me as a bit of an unusual situation and one I would be a little bit wary of.
From your post you seem to belive you are an employee, did they give you a contract of employment, dictate where and when you work, are you entitled to sick pay etc.? Or do you have control over your hours, your ability to earn, provide your own tools etc? How you answer those questions determine if you are self-employed or not. Do the UK company have anybody else working in Ireland that you can talk to?

Regarding cost it really depends on hours spent on the task but to prepare a small set of accounts and file income tax return approximately €750 - €1,000 (the fees are tax deductible :D ).

If you are an employee the fees would be modest €200. If you like my help please PM and I see how I can help you.

I would suggest taking a trip to the revenue office, they would go through the procedure with you. I doubt it would be that complicated and I'm sure you could do it yourselve. Thereby saving money.
