As a complete beginner I had a loan of a friends "Countryman acoustic " by hohner for a few weeks and picked up a few chords and am trying a bit of strumming at home. Now that I have booked some lessons the guitar has been reclaimed so Im in a bit of a hole.
The thing is I have no idea what a good instument should sound like and have been offered a tanglewood and on asking which model the seller ( a beginner who has lost interest) reckons the only words he can find in the guitar are "Barth 200".
Now for €180 i mightbe doing ok ... or not.
Anybody got any suggestions on whether to buy the above.
    cheers FMG

I cant find any reference to a guitar based on the words "barth 200). Id be dubious of this. could be some no name very cheap ripoff.

I would advise you to visit xMusic on the redcow roundabout. They do tanglewood guitars that are awesome for the money.

I got one about a year ago in musician inc, a TW 155 ST. was a shade over 300 bucks and plays like its worth a lot more. really excellent guitar, lovely sound, will suit a beginner and give you years of room to improve.

As always, youl get an acousitc for 90 quid, but if your serious about guitar, you will be sick of that cheapo guitar and out grow it in no time as it will be most likely quite low quality. Try to push for something a bit higher quality.

im not saying the tanglewood is on parr with a 1500 quid taylor or anything, but its built to a quality thats worth much more than the 300 quid i paid for it.

For €180, I'd suggest a Yamaha over anything else.

Definitely. I had a Yammy for years which I sold to upgrade to an Alvarez and I really miss the Yammy. The Alvarez is nice but that old Yamaha was some guitar for the money I paid.

Thanks guys ,with all the used stuff for sale it would be very easy for me to pick up something cheap and with my luck probably a pup.I will take on your advice and have a look at a yamaha or Tanglewood but will take a few weeks to get the readies up.Ill have a look in the shops here in Cork and hopefully get sorted.
    Cheers FMG
