Just wondering if I wanted to go for the AITI qualification after I qualify as an ACA with a big 4 firm will they pay for that and give me study leave even if Im in the Audit department?

Also somebody told me that once you qualify as ACA its only one extra set of exams to get AITI but this doesnt seem the case. It seems after ACA there are another two sets of exams....is this correct and would this mean it would take 2 years after ACA to get AITI?

If you work in tax in a big 4 firm they'll pay for tax exams for you. You're right that after FAE's you have AITI Part 2's and then Part 3's.

If you're doing them off your own bat it's possible to both in one year. i.e. sitting part 2's in April and Part 3's in September. Firm's don't tend to encourage it though due to the amount of absence you'll have.

So they wont pay/give study leave if Im in audit?

How feasible is it to do the exams "of my own bat" in the year after the FAE's?

Are they really difficult (i.e. reuire a lot of work) or would it be relatively doable after doing ACA?

    Thanks.

I know people who have done the aiti exams who say they are very hard and have a high failure rate in year 3,. But you should be fine if you can get thrugh youre aca exams.

I have done ACCA and have started AITI this year. I am working in industry and am getting 2 days study leave per exam + day of exam which is reasonable as i got excellent study leave for ACCA exams. Just to note that your exemption from AITI part one only lasts 18mths from when you finished your ACA qualification.

Ah yeah, I think that was the course with the "one more set of exams" I heard about.

On a side note is it just me or do they really take the piss with those course prices?

€10,600 for a 5 day course at INSEAD? €6,750 for a 20 day course on US GAAP? €3500 for a 12 day course on IFRS? Im sure they are good courses but some of those prices seem way over the odds to me.

AFAIK Big 4 firms won't pay for Audit staff to take the tax exams unless they're actually moving to the Tax dept. They may give you some study leave though. I wouldn't recommend doing both sets in one year (if your firm would even allow it).

I've done both, ACA and AITI and I thought Part 3 of the AITI was way harder than the FAEs, as well as the fact that you get about 1/3 of the study leave (usually around 3-4 weeks for part 3 compared with 10-12 for FAE). But that could be just me - some people could find Tax easier.

Standard is a week per exam for part threes.

I've done the solicitor fe1's and all the aiti's and the AITI was way harder. Very specific questions and no room for any type of waffle.

Pass rates was 52% for the part threes this year and that includes re-sits and people with exemptions from one or two exams so the first time pass rate is about 45% or that. Everyone sitting them has a minimum degree's and mostly masters so that'll tell you. Compared with 80% pass rate for ACA
