Hi all i was thinking of buying an electric guitar for playing slide with
IE: high action mamoth strings etc. At the moment I am thinking along the lines of an, sg junior or an danelectro u2 ?

guitar will be second hand I'm not bothered about the name on the headstock and i won't pay more that 6 or 7 hundred euro's

    ANY SUGGESTIONS

oh I am partial to p 90's also

Just look for a cheap guitar on ebay with a warped neck. Perfect for slide! :D

That cheap ass lipstick tube-pickuped Danelectro that Jimmy Page used sounded good to my ears. I wouldn't spend over €300, let alone €600, you won't need anything fancy like a decent fret job.

I can live with not spending more than 300 yoyos:D

The Dano 63 is about €250 in the shop here in Clonmel. I imagine it wouldn't sound too dissimilar.

I would'nt recomend a dano. They're great novelty guitars, but ultimately....

....they're just plastic and plywood :pac:.

I'd recomend a fat tele of some sort, single coil in the bridge and a humbucker in the neck.

You'll get oodles of sustain, balanced sounding body wood, dark and doomy tones from the neck and chimey clear tones from the bridge. It's everything you could want for slide, and loads of room to upgrade :).

A mexican fender fat tele would probably cost you about 500€ second hand, a squier standard (ie. top of the range squiers, and not too shabby!) would be about 300€.

ok I've borrowed a tele and I'm borrowing a dano next week, whichever floats my boat is what I will get.

    thanks everybody for your help.

I have a Squier Tele Custom II with p90's- fabulous little guitar that came in at round €300 new- they pop up in adverts round the €150 mark. Dont let the Squier thing throw you off- guitarist this month listed them as one of the 50 guitars you must own before you die!! SD designed p90's and a really nice neck- I reckon a set of 13's on there and you'd have a slide monster!

Unfortunately like a lot of modern families it split up. The Orville & Strat were sold long ago (helping fund a Matamp purchase) and the semi is currently for sale to pay back the wife for a Hamer purchase! The Les Paul Classic was sold to fund a Bacchus Purchase. Ah well. Still, great little tele at a great price- available in black too if the custardy yellow does'nt float your boat, and like I said previously- really really nice neck on these cheap ass teles. The 'SD designed' p90s arent half bad either.
