Tracer Unit recommendations please

I am looking at getting a tracer unit - and been looking at a few options, but would appreciate your opinions and experiences.
The TM unit is I assume; very good and the standard by which others are measured, or am I wrong?
Anyone got one or one of the SRC units?

Anyone make one? I've been looking at IR leds on dealextreme and was thinking about having a go at hacking one together either in a mag or suppressor ;):p

I havent seen any units for sale here in Ireland but maybe I've just missed them.

    Any advice or comments welcome.:)

Apologies if this should be posted in the troubleshooting section - move as appropriate

aiden have you looked at the UV mags with leds in them saves the hassle of adding to an aeg

only from guys from overseas that use them ,reckon there pretty good for night games givin that you dont get the light in the barrel effect, suppost to be reliable too, im ordering some bits and bobs this week might add some mags and see how they work out,

id rather try them first before making a proper recommendation

The mag option is useless, the UV charge dissipates too quickly when left in the feed. The suppressor option is the best and the TM remains the benchmark. You could make a suppressor version fairly easily, though unless you're tricky with solid state automation to make a light gate trigger that flashes your UV LEDs as the bb passes through, otherwise it'll need to be on constantly (and that'll light you up like a Christmas tree to anyone with NVG in a game).

Aidan I have the new Marui tracer. Does what it says on the tin. Have not heard good things about the G&P illuminated mags. Making one sounds like hassle tbh.

Got mine from here £65 good exchange rate at the mo as we all know.

I just happened to have the G&P LED Mag and the 2nd Generation TM Tracer. And it's TM all the way.

G&P LED Mag - can only be used on M4s/M16s etc. Can't remember the exact number of BBs it can hold, but I say just around 150-180. Not as bright as the TM unit. Works by using a ultra voilet LED to light the tracers. If you wanna change mag, gotta have more than one tracer unit.

TM - Screw on any the 14mm counter clockwise like silencer, very bright strobe light activates the tracer BBs. And it's much better than the 1st gen because the screw thread is metal instead of plastic. No problems with mag change, just fill them with tracer BBs. Every now and then, load up a hi-cap and watch them glow!!

Oh, if you are get either one of the above, stay with the green tracer BBs instead of the orange ones. Work much better. And now, tracer BBs are very much cheaper than before (see link)

indeed dude it was me. i bought both. actually have a few g&p tracer mags as they were the only option for a while there. the g&p ones work...barely they also use exensive batteries even tho they are supossed to take aaa, i never found one that worked with them.when compared to the tm tracer unit there is no comparison. I even modded a hopup to take super bright blacklight led's (UV ones to you and me)but that didnt even work as well as i had hoped.

the tm one is really good. takes 4 aaa batts, you can turn it on and off and for a right good laugh, you can mix a hicap mag (settle settle, relax deep breath, i know i know...hicap) with a mixed bag of ordinary and tracer rounds.

just make sure you get good quality tracer rounds. The ones i use are the g&g ones....have had zero faults with them...there are other brands. there is a bio one cant remember the brand and they were kak, and i mean really really kak..there are also different colours...orange, green, red etc...only ever fired green and orange (would be good for the vietnam games-- wasnt that the colours they used greenish for the US, orange for the NVA??)

finally...get a aeg, full charge on your batt preferably upgraded for high rof, put on the tm one, fresh batteries, get a hicap filled with only tracer rounds. wait till its dark...fire full auto for long long bursts

if you dont laugh OUT LOUD there is something wrong with you....live the dream of those childhood laser weapons...never ceases to give me a chuckle even thinking about it...

for a real skirmish the best thing i found is 2 loaders one with tracer rounds, do a pass thru of the mags, 2 pushes for the last rounds in mid caps, the 2 presses of ordinary bb's, one press of tracer and repeat...you will see bursts of tracer round fire to do what they should, show you where you are firing. when you get a long burst...its time to consider a mag change.

really finally remember the old military term which is just as valid in a skirmish...

tracer rounds work in both directions

if you are the only one with tracer rounds, you are a friggen bullet magnet once you fire...you have been warned!!!

Thanks Falls and all who replied. Much appreciate the heads-up and help.
    :):)

I'm a bullet magnet without tracers so I might as well enjoy my last few seconds of outta-control crazed cyclic light spotted madness :D:D

    I'll be the decoy;)
