the likelyhood of these fees coming back are almost certain as some colleges are making €20 millon losses a year and at this moment in time the government simply cannot afford these fees would usually be around five grand a year but could be different on some courses

I heard that fees would only apply to students starting in first year and that students midway through college would be exempt from fees?

    any truth in this?

There are only rumours about how fees will be charged at the moment, if they will be. As for the cost, it depends on the course and the college. Medicine will be expensive, for example, but Arts-y courses are cheaper since they don't have labs/practicals as much.

If the present scheme continues as is, yes it'll be covered.

It seems unlikely to me that first years will be the only ones charged tuition fees. This is in all likelyhood a rumour started among students. How could you have some people doing a course for free and some people paying for it. I'm sure that would come under some discrimination law. I think when it comes in it will apply to everyone.
Besides it's in the government's interests to apply it across the board. Students already in Uni are more likely to borrow to stay there. Someone who hasn't started has less to lose by opting not to go to Uni at all.
